You can block a lot of shots and still be a bad defender; a good defender gets consistent stops

oh heyyyyy Mek! ;)

just kidding guys. Kinda....

Do you think that was just a general comment or was he taking a shot at Okafor? Considering a lot of people wrote that we got robbed, I wouldn't be surprised if he was ready to prove he's better than Okafor.

Of course, saying it and doing it are two different things.

I hope he comes back strong and blows Mek out of the water....

I think we got the better of the deal (as long as he's healthy) as just his energy level is above and beyond Okafor. Skills can get you so far but athleticism and attitude will carry you a long way. There won't be any tip backs or layups now there will be as Darryl Dawkins says "Thunder Dunks" around the rim.

"All last season was filled with tricks, but now I'm with a good organization that really wants me and needs me, so I feel like it happened for a reason."

That's what stood out to me. TC seems like the type to speak his mind, and if that's what's on it, I'm happy.

"The flaw in the past is that I'd stop working on it during the season," said Chandler, who averaged 8.8 points and shot 57.9 percent at the foul line last season. "This year I'll keep working. I need to be able to make my free throws."

" Not coincidentally, Chandler referred to himself as the defensive anchor more than a half-dozen times in a 30-minute chat.

"One reason I am making sure I'm healthy this season is that the coaches have told me I'll run harder than any year in my career."

My favorite parts

I love this article.

Chandler has something to prove. He's determined to work for that next contract and he's been working to improve his shooting in the offseason.

If he can get over that ankle injury and not be foul prone I doubt it'll take long for it to be obvious that we did indeed get the better player for us in that deal.

His new franchise believes in him. "Our medical people thoroughly checked [Chandler] out," Bobcats director of communications B.J. Evans said. "At this level, there are no secrets."

and

Never mind that Chandler has never missed an NBA game, before or after that 2007 operation, because of the toe.

is making me very optimistic. If Boris can come in strong I think we're easily looking at our best season ever.

I agree 100%.

It all hinges on his health but if he stays healthy, I think we will be the franchise to get a steal out of the deal.

Hopefully he will be a good mentor for Ajinca as well. The kid would do well to pattern parts of his game after chandler.

I think we posted this right after the trade...but what the hell; it's slow and it goes with the theme of the thread:

Salary Dump?
Positive for Bobcats Fans
by Bradford Doolittle (http://www.basketballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=722)

The key to this deal for the Bobcats is the apparently wide chasm in defensive ability in favor of Chandler. Based on what I've read, I think the perception is that the pair are both good defenders and there really isn't much difference between the two. My system sees otherwise. In NBAPET, centers on average usually put up between a 15% and 16% defensive usage. So Chandler's apparent ability to limit opportunities is huge. On top of that, opposing centers create 15 fewer points per 100 possessions against Chandler.

I have a feeling I'm going to be a lone wolf in the wilderness on this trade. Some are going to see the swing in projected records and say, "You're suggesting that Tyson Chandler is nine wins better than Emeka Okafor?" That's not what I'm suggesting at all. Teams are a delicate concoction of basketball elements and when you shift things around, particularly when dealing a starter for a starter, the new mix is a lot more volatile than people want to realize. I think the new mixes created by this trade favor the Bobcats. It makes them one of the league's best defensive teams, playing for a defensive coach, without taking away that much offense.

For the Hornets, you can certainly undertand their rationale for making the trade, both from a financial and basketball standpoint. However, once things shake out, I think they'll find that their new potion won't taste quite as sweet. That may send many loyal Hornets fans scurrying for Hurricanes in the Quarter. Which doesn't sound so bad, after all.

There is a really cool video on Tyson's website. It shows him working out and what he's doing to get ready for the season in LA. It's pretty cool if you haven't seen it. It's on tysonchandler.com

As I sit on my day off of work and daydream about my Bobcats. I'm extra excited about seeing Ajinca and Chandler on the floor at the same time. Both can run, Both have the ability to cover alot of ground defensively. Ajinca seems to be able to shoot from close to 3 pt range, That should open up the middle for Tyson. I seriously hope we are building up to a UNC style run and gun offense. It's fun to watch and it works when you play good defense.

Derrick Brown and Ajinca are the big question marks. With every one else you kinda already know what you are getting. Everything I've heard about Frenchy this off season has been good. He's working out, trying to get bigger. I don't think he should start off in D league, I'd rather see him play. Brown, I still have never seen him play live. I have no idea what type of game he has or what to expect. But the coaches like him, so i'm going to be excited too.

This is a pretty funny story I saw on hoopshype about Phoenix's coach, Alvin Gentry, calling Channing Frye "Tyson" all the time by accident:

"At one point, Gentry started stomping the Jenny Craig Pavilion floor in the middle of practice as if he was furious with something the Suns had done. Turns out, he had just called him Tyson again. Suns.com heard Frye respond, "It's OK, Coach Hollins.""
