According to the official press release from bobcats.com regarding flip murray,at the bottom it says we also signed antonio anderson who was a 6'6 SG from memphis who went undrafted this year.I didn't really get a chance to see memphis last year and was wanting to know what you knew.

He looks kind of streaky by his game logs, and probably will either be cut or in the D-League...

I noticed that as well - makes me think more and more that something could be brewing on the trade front to bring in a PF - I don't see us having Felton, Augustin, Bell, Henderson, Jefferson. Murray and Anderson...maybe Jefferson is headed to Houston with Diop to bring in Landry and either Barry or Chuck Hayes?

I may be wrong, but I think it's pretty common to bring guys in for camp on non-guaranteed contracts and then release them before the season starts or in December before guarantees kick in.

In other words, there's more than a good chance this guy isn't on the squad for very long.

no, you're right, this is a common practice. mccants got signed to a non-guarantee contract

and if you remember last year, LB brought it a million players ..i can't remember their names anymore, there was one tall player with last name Brown, and then we had the former C from St Johns..

this may also be a LB trend

Andre Brown and Linton Johnson, you mean?

It's common for teams with roster space, and you sometimes find diamonds in the rough - like Raja and Tony Parker I think.

yeah those two. unless we're signing any of these new additions to guarantee contracts, they wont be around by the time the season starts

here's an interesting thing, i didn't realize that antonio anderson had worked out for the bobcats

Tony Parker I think.

I think you're right about Raja, but Parker was a first rounder. Before the season started there was a big Tinsley vs. Parker discussion, though most thought Tinsley would be better.

I looked it up, you're right, it's Manu is who I was thinking of.

This guy's almost certainly training-camp fodder. Lots of teams are signing undrafted guys to non-guaranteed contracts nowadays. It's just to give the split squads a bench when they play each other in camp.

Antonio Anderson will not make this team. This is another body for training camp, and no way in hell is he 6'6.

It sounds like one of the names of the virtual rookie classes in NBA 2K, where they seem to scramble up the first and last names of players into new players.

Even though I know he will not make regular season roster, I found this signing a little weird. We are loaded at guard positions and thin at 4, so why don't we try a PF?

e
We still probably will. Preseason rosters can have up to 20 players.

I don't care who we sign as long as they're better than Alexis Ajinca, that guy just isn't ready to play in the NBA in my opinion.

Honestly, I like the way larry does things with finding hidden talent and bringing them to training camp. You never know if one of these guys may just shine a bit brighter after a summer of working out than they did in pre-draft workouts. Don't forget these guys can go on non guaranteed contracts into the season to give them a shot at 5 minutes here or there in a real game (maybe towards the end in clean up when you've got it in the bag, or maybe when you've all but given up hope). All i know is I like the way larry does things and hope that when he does decide his time is up that we find someone very much like him.

my 2 cents, ymmv

I think they werent actally in training camp and were just signed later as an attempt to fill a needd a bit. Linton for sure.

I got to see a ton of Anderson, at least his sophomore, junior, and most of his senior season. He was by far the best on ball defender on the team (better than all the former players that are current NBA players Rodney Carney, Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans, Joey Dorsey, Shawne Williams, and Chris Douglass Roberts.) He isn't as athletic as Derrick Rose, but he is a near Raja Bell clone, while having a bigger build, being quicker, stronger, more explosive and overall more athletic. He is a streaky shooter, with poor dribbling in contested areas (for some reason he loves to dribble the ball either in far from his body) but he can finish around the basket like a strong small forward and can guard three positions. Even with his poor dribbling he is a pretty good passer averaging 4.5 assist at the two guard spot with a steal and a half. He is a Larry Brown defender. People forget that it was Antonio Anderson that guarded the opposing teams best offensive perimeter player during there three year NCAA Tournament Run. He also is a defensive clone of Calipari, who is a defensive clone of Larry Brown. He may not make the team, but he'll push guys in practice, he'll be a defensive beast in the D League and Larry Brown will remember him. In two years he'll be better than Raja Bell ever was.

The same reason no one picked up Raja.

But if he is that, then God bless Larry Brown.
