View Full Version : Fan Turnout seems to be getting worse

Man tonight was sad. You would think with the defending eastern conf champs here we would have some people in attendance but it was dead as a doornail
I go to all the games and tonight was kinda depressing to me. If this team does not start getting support (which it will only get by consistently winning)I just can't see it being here long term.
If the arena was 1/3 full tonight that would be a lot. The bottom was half empty (I sit in 116) and the top was a ghost town
Lets hope we get some ownership that will invest smartly in the team to enable it to win which in turn will turn out fans (We had some good crowds last spring).
Team can't leave for 30 years without basically buying the stadium. No worries about it leaving, just about cheapness from the owner's box.
Paid att. tonight was 13,415.
Season average is 14,233.25, with one sellout.
And you're right about it being a ghost town...

whats the league average
whats the league average
A little over 17k.
We're 26th in the league, ahead of Indy, Memphis, Sacramento, and Philly (WTF?)

Believe me guys, if I didn't live in AZ, I'd be there all the time...
It is sad though. I imagine its pretty tough for the guys trying to get up for a game when they know they're gonna be playing in front of an empty arena. That's gotta suck.

Of those other teams you mentioned I don't get how Philly is not supporting the 76ers. They have been in the playoffs in the last few years and are not a bad basketball team.
The Bobcats have not really given the fans any real reason to get excited. If they can run off at least a five game winning streak maybe that creates enough buzz to get fans to turn out.

There's really nothing exciting about the Bobcats right now. They aren't a very good team and they have no offense. Until those two change, I would imagine it will only get worse.

I thought the crowd was pretty damn good for a rainy tuesday night. No one wants to park and walk to a basketball game on a tuesday night when its biblically wet outside. we've never had a winning season and have very few star players. and yet we still had 13k people. Of course even a diehard like me would rather sit in the rain than watch Larry's lineup's they were freakin terrible. and Flip Murray is garbage by the way.
everyone relax. we aren't even 10 games deep yet.
not too many casual fans want to give up a tuesday night to see an NBA team not score above 90 points and run a Big Ten style basketball offense. Plus, V, WSOP, 30 for 30 and most importantly Sons of Anarchy were all on the Tizzube.

i go to as many games as possible but it is usually not full unless a major star or major team like the lakers/cavs/celtics come in. But even though the cats are not the best team i still enjoy going to the games.

I enjoy going to the games win or lose. We all know we are not winning a championship so the outcomes of the games really dont matter as much as we give them credit for. As long as we are not blown out i have a blast.
If anyone thinks we have 13k at a typical game they are nuts. I am there most every night and last night if we had 10k that would have been stretching it.
I am not worried about w's and l's at this point, we need a roster change for that to happen i just want us to be competitive night in and night out but if we don't start getting fans which in Charlotte comes from winning then I cannot see howthis is a long term viable franchise moving forward

I was there, as I am every game night. The upper level was really empty... I think they should advertise the upper level price more. You can get seats up there for like $15 bucks. I sit in 112 and my whole row was full... but the lower level as a whole was like 2/3's full. And that might be pushing it.

I was at the Hawks game, and I bet there were 8000 people actually there. Agreed it is kind of sad, but if we are contending for the 8 seed at the end I think it will improve.

I'll sound like an ass probably, but I sort of like it. Traffic's a breeze and I usually have the whole row to myself and the seats in front for my legroom. Then again, I'm a misanthrope at heart, so.....
That said, up in 215, my habitat, I have noticed a slight increase in attendance from last year, not to mention the uppers looked pretty damn good for all games but the Nets. The lower bowl, especially the side opposite benches, has looked pretty bad this year, but I see no signs of attendance decline up top.

I think the problem is just a lack of local exposure. How can you support a team you can't see on tv, you never hear about on ESPN or NBATV, and is lucky if they get highlights on the local news.
If you market a team like it's second rate, they play like they are second rate, and you are in a multi-sport town, attendance won't be too good.
It's a 3 hour drive from Fayetteville to Charlotte, I've been to 2 games and other than crappy streams with french announcers, and the bad end of a Top 10 play, that is all I get to see of the team.
Even if they do start playing better, all I get is a boxscore to prove it to me.

I do think the 'Cats need to try a more out-of-the-box marketing scheme instead of the traditional stuff...something that will grab people's attention. I remember watching this one ESPN highlight some years ago of the Houston Rockets, I believe, who had a promo that all fans this one night would get a free chalupa from Taco Bell if the team scored 100 points. The place was PACKED and people had signs like "We want Chalupas!" and whatnot...and the team scored 99 that night and it was ALL over ESPN. Sometimes you have to be a little weird to get some exposure.
As you all know, I'm a hardcore New York Yankees fan and I hate the Los Angeles Angels, but they have a smart thing going with that idiotic Rally Monkey. During games they show these video clips of famous movies where they edit the monkey into these popular scenes...it's freaking hilarious...and I've read articles where even players on the field stop to watch the videos in-between innings because they think they're funny.
The Bobcats need to do fun stuff like having people shave their heads to look like MJ before the game: first 100 get in free (Seattle Mariners did that to HUGE success for years). Or have Leif Erikkson day, where people can come dressed like vikings....stuff like that. I'm no marketing guru, I didn't even study it in school, but to me the "Play the Right Way" thing doesn't work...not for me, it doesn't. There needs to be something like "2009-2010 Charlotte Bobcats...now with less fat"
"2009-2010 Charlotte Bobcats...now with less fat"
Sean May jokes never get old
But you're absolutely right.

Maybe the 'cats should do something where the fans in attendance will participate in breaking a Guinness World Record

To compare with soccer games here in Europe, could you tell me the price of a game ticket in the Time Warner Cable Arena?
Inexpensive tickets are $15.00...pretty good seats $40.00....good seats $90.00...and the court-side someone else will have to answer because I never look to buy them...

Oh ok it's not so expensive...
I love soccer but I watch NBA because it's so much spectacular. And inexpensive tickets to watch my favourite soccer team are about 20€ (30$). When I add transport costs it can cost 60€.. so cheaper and more spectacular...
If only I could live near Charlotte ^^ maybe one day..

I went to both Tuesdays game and to Saturday’s game. I will tell you the problem, it is some of the worst kind of basketball... defensive contests where your team still comes out behind. In baseball terms I feel like my team keeps loosing 0-1 in the 13th inning. It is like watching a lethal car crash, but with two cars only going 35 MPH.
I love the team, but even I have been having a hard time watching them play, if we were going to lose I would almost prefer to have the other team light us up, put on a highlight real of a game… not have us go form being 9 points up in the 4th to loosing.

I usually sit in the first 2 off the floor behind the visitors bench. Runs about 275-300 each. Great seats. Courtside is a bit more i believe:biggrin:
