View Full Version : Team built for AI

L Brown said to day on sports center AI is our best chance to get to the playoffs. Ever one agreeded the Bobcats would be the best place for AI. [Side note ] two big names Jax and AI should really bost ticket sales]
REASONS This team all ready has so many passers . Jax ,Boris passing finding the open man . Along with AI trying to prove his self for Brown should make a very unselfish team .
Scoring . AI can still hit the clutch shot along with Jax . This takes pressure off Wallace who prefers to be the hustler and third option. Wallace likes to focus on defence . Steals, blocks, rebounds . Scoring is extra for him. Borris a point foward , one could see all the passes to AI and JAX, With Boris adding in open shots from time to time. TC is only defence any way if he can do that we become solid . With two solid scorers , and three solid role players in the satarting line up.
\
Felton and DJ neither one can score like AI . In sick of Felton taking shots with the clock on his back.
This would be a very low risk high reward investment . At worst we can waive him . AT best he takes us deep in to the playoffs.
I called the Jax trade, and now im Calling the AI pick up , AI will be a BOBCAT by mid next weak. We have the money under the trade exception and its going to get done . Bobcats would be crazy not to jump on this.

It looks like we would have to give him Feltons starting job for AI to be happy. If the team is ok with it, I don't have a problem but we don't need a divided locker room. It would also be the end of minutes for DJ or Flip.
I think our system fits vetrans better then younger players and AI is a vet. Might as well give it a shot.

No kidding? Did he throw a caveat in there...like "if we had the room for him" or something else?
If he said that and nothing else then maybe we are seriously considering AI. At this point I don't think we really have much to lose.

Honestly, having Boris and adding Jax...both very good passers...someone like AI would fit in perfectly at the 1.
The other guys might not care for it...but they've brought it on themselves.

Exactly. At this point, I really don't give a shit what anyone outside of maybe Crash and Jack think, and even then they can deal with it.
And like dav said, the worst that can happen is we sell tickets and jerseys, and buy him out. No harm no foul...

I posted the following on Bonnell's blog a few days ago...and since New York doesnt want him...hopefully we can step it up.

Iverson as a scorer > Felton or DJ
I dont see the issue. We just aquired a SG/SF known for his ability create shots and looks for others. We have a PF that is one of the top passing PF's in the league.
To me it seems that Iverson can play PG in this offense without even stressing about distribution. And our biggest issue...scoring...well I dont think AI is a slouch in that department. DJ and Ray have both been struggling to get it going.
Yes there are issues raised when bringing this type of player in. However, after trading for Jax yesterday...it seems that the Charlotte Bobcats are willing to take this chance.
To me we could benefit from more point production at the point. Especially to offset the lack of production we are getting out of Chandler at Center.

No doubt. With our pitiful PG play, then the Jackson trade and Iversons release we should have been the first ones on the phone talking to his agent. If their only goal is winning now which I questioned after the Okafor trade then there is no reason he shouldn't be in a Bobcat uniform.

I also think we need to make this happen, even if it does not work out and we miss the playoffs I don't think its a big deal since it looks like we wont make it with the team we have right now. We would finally have 2 proven scorers on the team and would be able to go to them in crunch time and maybe finish games off instead of give them away like the 76er game.

I wouldn't mind trading DJ and Acie Law for a PF, that clears up two guard spots we can bring AI for, but if we just sign him 7 guards is way too much
Felton, DJ, Murray, Law, Jackson, & AI, Henderson

Dont we have the roster spot? I thought that we had freed up more immediate cap space in aquiring Jax...but then it goes up after one year. Is that right?
If thats the case...than we are probably sitting better than we were this summer in acquiring him. Wouldnt we be able to offer AI a one year deal w/ a team option for the second year? This could be ideal should he be successful...and could make the Felton decision easier after this year.
I know that leaves us way too stacked in the backcourt...but just grab him and worry about the wheeling and dealing later.
It seems that the stars are alligned for this to happen. I just hope we are smart enough capitalize on what seems to be a win win for all involved...but especially for the thing that counts most...product on the floor.

Like you i don't want to get my hopes to high either .
But this is only win , win,
We get another scorer for all most nothing , Bob Johnson sells more tickets makes more money. His skill set is all most perfect for this team. It helps force Felton to accept a trade. Orlando might have instrest in DJ orFelton, We give up no asset to get him . With more flexability for a trade . Like some one said we have seven guards . Instrest should be in a few of them. If for some reason the AI thing don't work Johnson has all ready made money on Jersey and ticket sales. Its no way to lose on this. Its not like this team is going to make noize in the playoffs any way.
Spectre im not sure if it was any if ands or buts after the statemant.
But im still predicting AI will be a Bobcat by mid next week.

I'm all for it...... i saw him in his only 2 games for Memphis this season in which he was stroking it from mid range yeah he can still score, sure he's not as fast and quick as he used to be, but he still has abilities that none of our players do and that is scoring.I would imagine though that we would have to waive or trade one of our guards to make room for him and at this point i don't care if it's Felton or Flip(i'm giving DJ a chance here as Felton BOOOOOOOOOO has had his).So LB make it happen

It certainly sounds like LB has done an about face. This is by far the strongest statement he's made about bringing AI here. We need to make this happen. We should have done it this summer. We've been given a second chance. Let's get it right this time.

Here's the closest thing I could get to talk about LB and AI on sportscenter. It's basically an endorsement from Chris Sheridan that AI could help the 'Cats push into the playoffs.

we probably should have taken him in the summer but we've been given a second chance and we'd be idiots to pass on him! i wasnt 100% for the trade in the summer but now i realise just how bad felton and DJ are that AI cannot be seen as a risk!

If LB is coming out publicly and saying that AI is their best shot to make the playoffs, then I'm with dav7z. He stands a great chance to be a Bobcat within a week.
To be able to add a talent of his caliber for next to nothing is a no-brainer. I've seen enough of Felton now to know that he'll never "get it." (He's in the paper today saying he doesn't really know when to shoot or pass...it's been over 4 years, if he was a high-quality PG, he would have figured that out a long time ago.)
We really do need some more talent on this team, and AI certainly has that. I do think he could play PG with Jax and Diaw on the floor as good facilitators. At this point, help is needed. AI can offer what's needed, for cheap. So I say sign him, sooner rather than later.

Yeah, at this point, AI would at the very least make the team more interesting and potentially add a bunch of scoring. I hope that we get to see Acie tonight. Depending on whether or not he works out, I'm certain that we can move him or DJ for some big man that could help us. Not a game changer, but someone servicable, I'd think.

I was one of the first who said Iverson should come here. I still think he should.
Iverson-Jackson-Wallace-Diaw-Chandler would be sick! Then trade DJ + Diop's big ass contract for the young, scrapy backup power forward (anthony randolph?) we need and the playoffs are a lock. Jackson/Diaw/Wallace are all play making point forwards. Iverson is a playmaker. Iverson is also a floor general. Our offense will have a steady flow.
Jackson already has brought a great presense to improve the rhythm of the offense. It is still early and we might make the playoffs without Iverson. But Iverson would push us over the top and bring flexibility for future moves. I hope we sign him.

if we are so worried about the way he is going to play then cant we offer him a 10 day contract to see how it works out. If it dosnt then its all good if it all does thats great and we sign him for the remainder of the season. I am all for brining ai here i think our fo saw wat he did with ticket sales in memphis and jersey sales maybe they will do the right move for once and pull the trigger on this s.o.b. We arnt looking to hot anyways and if we sign ai then i bet espn will be talking about us more. About how ai is doing, he can get jax and crash more exposure. If we can get him here and the rest of our team keeps playin good i think we will be a contender for lower seed in the playoffs.
I say offer a 10 day see wat happens.
Muttley
11-20-2009, 07:25 PM
Are teams allowed to sign players to 10 days now? For some reason, I thought that was for after the trade deadline only. We could sign him to a non-guarranteed, I suppose. Either way, I doubt he'd sign it. Those no doubt qualify as insulting contracts, to paraphrase LB. Still, we could do a 1-year deal at the min, since Memphis is already paying him (or are they? I'm not sure of the ins and outs), and not lose too much from it.

DJ isn't going anywhere LB drafted him for a reason he is still basically a rookie. This will all shake out eventually but Felton should have taken the money on the table. Him not being in on that final play of the last game spoke volumes to me. Everyone is going to say the right thing to the media but what has Felton done to win over LB. It's basically a wash between him and DJ and with that said me myself I would keep the player I drafted and get one I already know (AI) if I were LB. Raymond gets his minutes cut and ego gets him asking for a trade.

Yeah and I mean I am a supporter of DJ and I had always hoped that he would take Ray's spot but dang, they both flat out suck right now. I am watching the game right now and they are getting pretty much owned by Jennings.
We need AI as a veteran prescence who can match what other guards like Jennings are doing. Plus AI would be making dumb turnovers and fouls like Ray/DJ

If it happens I'll accept it and probably be won over. I just can't endorse it or lobby for it at the moment. I'm frustrated and Ray and DJ are both killing me, for that matter i think the shooting and turnovers are atrocious. I have no definite reasons not to get behind the "bring AI to Charlotte" movement, I just don't have good feelings about it.

i'm way on board with it, especially now that sjax is here. i would love a.i. at the point with jackson, gwall, diaw and chandler starting. the catch with this is that this decision would be a "boom-or-bust" signing for iverson and the team. it's year 6 and blowing the team up is one option, so you need to dribble or shoot. if you add iverson to this team, we will have the most talented bobcat team to date. if it doesn't work out with this unit +a.i., it's broke and needs to be fixed. firesale the team with the exception of dj, acie, hendo, brown, and maybe lexy. seriously.... too many mistakes have been made along the way and you can't keep signing flip murrays and drafting odd pieces that don't amount to what you hoped. wallace and felts have given you there all, sjax, a.i., diaw are all players, but if you can't get to the 2nd round of the playoffs with that line up, it's time to break it down and re-build. we need to get a.i. to satisfy brown's veteran style, to quit watching the trainwreck that we currently have at pg, and to put some asses in the seats. plus, iverson had little takers on the open market, just got released by one of the worst teams (memphis), and got denied interest by another terrible team (knicks). charlotte and brown is all he's got and the chip that he once had on his shoulder to prove doubters wrong has only increased this season. can it really hurt to give it a shot??

Where the hell is ziggy? I'd love to read his thoughts and see if he'd allow for AI.
Anyhow, I was initially against it, then sort of indifferent, then just didn't care. Now I'm with the vast majority of y'all: it's time. As good as Flip has looked of late, I'd hate to see his minutes diminish (and maybe they won't too much if Larry does the right thing), but it's time to at least take the chance on AI.
Anybody that caught the postgame comments from Larry was sure to notice how he stressed, in a question about Jennings, how they have two really good PGs, with the not-so-subtle dig that his team has zero really good PGs.
I honestly think Larry knows it's time to bring in AI but I don't know if the ego will concede. We shall see.....

We've got a 3million dollar trade exception from the deal. So, we can use that to even out the finances in trade. Not sure exactly how it works, but I think we add it to the opposing team's total so that we can take in more than we send out.

I wanted AI at the beginning he is a must for this team. Rashard Lewis just came back for the Magic so Bass' mins went down to 8 mpg. I heard someone mention trading PGs to Orlando and I also know that we were trying to get Bass during the offseason..would there be any chance of us trading say Acie/Dj + Diop for Bass? would this work? Of course we would have to wait til Dec 15th due to Bass' just signing in the offseason..I think that would be huge for us Then with the addition of AI we fix our thin PF position and AI comes in and does his thing.
