Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown says he plans to contact Allen Iverson, to try to talk him out of his intent to retire.
Don't confuse that with Brown recruiting Iverson to be a Bobcat. Brown has maintained throughout this process he wouldn't put Iverson in a position where he wouldn't be guaranteed a featured role. As well as Stephen Jackson has played here, Iverson in a featured role would be less likely than ever.
Brown simply hates the idea of Iverson's career ending this way; that walking away from a brief stay with the Memphis Grizzlies would be Iverson's final act. And as difficult as the Brown-Iverson relationship became in Philadelphia, Brown's affection and respect for Iverson is genuine.

Maybe Brown can talk him into a 6th man role... We can dream

the thing that i don't get, other than perhaps not being in at crunch time which would absolutely kill a warrior like iverson, why would he not accept a 6 man role. 20-25 minutes a game, go in light it up, green light to score provide a lift, gamble for steals etc. he could easily average 18-20 ppg, 3-5 assists, 1-2 steals and have occasional "old-school" games. i guess the whole not being the go to guy is huge, after all, that is what made him the player he was for the last 25 years.

A.I. is the man. I've seen alot of haters on this site saying this and that about him being old and not the scorer he used to be. Nonsense. I really would like Iverson to come back with some other team and it's amazing that no teams are calling him. As bad as some teams like the Nets and T-Wolves, It just makes no sense.

I have cheered for Iverson since he was a sophmore in college, The day he retired I got my first grey hair. I'm offically old.

Kat...I'm one of the primary folk against him coming here...but I've never said (or questioned) his talent...he would be a horrible fit for us....

AI may be the greatest one-on-one small man offensive players to ever play the game...do we play one-on-one ball where one guy dominates the offense to score? LB is trying to teach a team concept offense with ball movement...you will never...and I mean NEVER get that with AI...he simply does not fit what we're trying to do...

Oh I agree he doesn't fit with this team's playing style, But what about the other 29 teams? All I was saying is these teams that suck worse then the Cat's are crazy for letting him pass.

I think he plays this year...I don't know where but I do think he plays...I'd really like to see him with a team that has a solid chance to win it all...lots of vets and that includes a vet coach...I think that is the only way he accepts a 6th man type role...and frankly I would like to see him go out with a ring...

Brown says Iverson could get opportunities later in the season. He pointed to Jan. 10, the date contracts are no longer guaranteed for the season, and the trade deadline a month later when several teams may reshape their rosters.

“Some teams might think they aren’t as good as they thought,” Brown said.
