View Full Version : Gerald Wallace, East All-Stars and Dennis Rodman
playoffs...PLAYOFFS?
12-08-2009, 10:45 PM
Watching GW play latey has been amazing. He is all over the boards picking any ball and playing with some serious determination.
I looked today at the rebound leaders at amazingly Wallace is in first place at 12.2 rbds/gm
(http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/statistics)
This has got to be the most impressive accomplishment by any Bobcat so far. Wallace stands at 6'7"..and is ahead (slightly) of Bosh at 6'10" and Howard at 6'11".
Scoring wise, among his SF peers for the Eastern division he ranks sixth.
I think that Wallace deserves this year to be in the All Star, specially if he can maintain the first place in rebounding, bump up his scoring to be closer to the 4th place, and we are in the top 8 (wallace is a difference maker in our team, this needs to be acknowledged)
While thinking about this, Dennis Rodman came to mind. In 1990 he was named to the all-star team. His average numbers for that year were 12.5 rbds/gm and 8.2 pts/game. He was in the all-star team again in 1991 with 18.7 rbds/gm and 9.8 pts/game
The difference is that Rodman was in a championship contention team and had all the exposure that came along. So, despite Wallace's impressive numbers, I think he will still get neglected due to lack of attention. The spot will probably end up going to James, Granger, Pierce.
Sucks, I wish Wallace would go ahead of Granger. Wallace really deserves it.

I don't think he's as crazy, looney out there that Rodman was and that's what made Rodman 1 of the best rebounders ever was his attitude. He was just on another level in his own world almost, but he(Crash) definitely has the motivation, hustle down pat

Playoffs, the same thing happened last year with Mo Williams. He got a ton of exposure playing for the Cavs and got that All-Star spot when he really didn't deserve it.
It's bound to happen again

i have been voting daily for GW and Jax. I am hoping we get 1 of 2 in the game atleast. Right now there is no way that Crash want make it. He is standing heads above the rest. In the east GW is 31st in points, 3d in Double Doubles, 11th in efficiency, 1st in minutes played per, 14th in pts, reb, assists , 1st in rebounds, 20th in steals
Thats a solid All Star to me

PG: Jennings/Arenas/Rondo
SG: Wade/Johnson/Iguodala
SF: LeBron/Granger/Pierce
PF: Bosh/Smith/Crash
C: Howard/Lopez/Lee
Looks like a good Eastern All-Star lineup to me

Danny Granger is badly injured and G.W is have a much better season than Peirce. Wallace should be backup SF in the all star game.
With Granger hurt I don't see him there Swedd...

Says at least a month so theres still a chance hell be voted in and have a spot if he's active. He just won't get much PT. Same reason why Yao is still getting a shit load of votes.
And it's simply silly to expect Crash to have a spot above Pierce. He isn't going to get nearly the amount of votes for one, and Crash plays for the lolcats while Pierce is on a top 5 team. Regardless of the numbers, Pierce is going to be in there before Crash.
Besides, it really doesn't matter beyond the starters. Those are just the guys that will probably get in there, the second/third guys are interchangeable in a game that really doesn't matter much until the fourth quarter.

Uhhh...votes only matter for the starters. So why are you even taking that into consideration knowing that Lebron has that?

I'll bold it for you:

So don't get your panties in a wad.

Anybody with eyes and a competent brain know that Gerald is an All Star. Whether he gets recongized as a "commercial" All Star and is invited to play in All Star weekend doesn't even matter to me anymore: that's just a dog and pony show and GW is above that bullshit: all substance with style!
Of course it would be cool if he were chosen; it's just he doesn't need it to validate the incontrovertible fact he IS an All Star.

No...There's no chance anyone will be voted over Lebron. NONE (ignoring a major injury)

Voted in, not by the fans, but by the coaches. The participants are currently chosen in two ways. The first is via fan ballot, with the leading vote recipients at each position starting the game; secondly the reserves are chosen by a vote among the head coaches of each squad's particular conference.
You won't see Crash take Granger or Pierce's spot on the All Star team. Not going to happen. He's going to have to get his spot AFTER them.
I honestly don't see why were arguing the facts here. We both said we want him on the team, I even put him on my "mock" team. Yet you bitch about him being third string (which, as I've said twice now, doesn't really mean shit in terms of the the ASG).

On that note, who are the coaches this year? That's probably not set yet either, but when does that usually happen? I can't remember.

From Wikipedia:
The coaches who currently lead the teams with the most wins in their conference through the Sunday two weeks before the game coach their respective conferences. However, the same coach cannot coach the team in consecutive seasons.[1] This is the so-called "Riley Rule" so named because coach Pat Riley's Lakers teams of the 1980s won so often that he coached the Western Conference team eight times in nine seasons from 1982 to 1990. In the event that a coach's team repeats as the best record holder the coach from the team with the second best record will serve as All-Star coach for that conference.

One thing that kills me is that if Rodman could make it..why not wallace? the competition might be different..who knows what is was like in 1990/1991, but being in the bobcats is hurting him. his best change would be as a reserve that is selected by the coaches
here is bonnell's post on this matter

Hey Dav7z and everyone else, here's the link:
https://audience.nba.com/services/msib/flow/all_star_ballot?src=eng&mcode=null
There's also a link right on www.nba.com (http://www.nba.com).
You probably will need to register your email address in order to vote. That's how they keep folks from voting more than once in a 24 hour period.

Should Gerald Wallace be an All Star?
John Hollinger (12:15 PM)
No. He's rebounding amazingly well but his other #s are down from previous years. Likely East All-Star team is Wade, Bosh, LeBron and nine players from the Celtics, Magic and Hawks.
Question posed to Hollinger in today's chat...
u beat me to it. as much as i hate how the national media doesn't understand us as a team, i believe hollinger is right on this. but, this doesn't mean he shouldn't be an all-star, just he won't.
i am holding out hope.

I don't care if he's averaging 10 points a game by all star break... It's ridiculous that the league's top rebounder doesn't get even the smallest bit of playing time in the All Star game
All people care about is points and big market teams =\
Chris Broussard was on ESPN First Take this morning and he said Wallace should be on the team.

theres no way gerald wallace doesnt make the all star team, its a damn shame. other coaches will vote him in. they recognize the type of player gerald is and he truely deserves it.
