BG can play sporadic stretches at PG, and he's a willing passer that will draw some attention from opposing defenses because of his scoring prowess, but you don't want to depend on him dribbling too much. For those who haven't followed him much, he has a bad habit of losing control of the ball sometimes.
I definitely think that's an option for us in small doses. Gordon isn't a PG (Bulls tried forcing that but it just didn't work out) but he can find guys and he's a big threat. He's always going to look for his first; if you thought Kemba forced up some shots out of frustration last season Ben would be that X 10. He's also a subpar defender and our bigs just aren't there yet to cover enough for him..Quote:

Gordon isn't a passer and is a subpar (for his position) ball handler. I wouldn't want him running PG unless Kemba and Sessions were fouled out and MKG was on the bench.
That said, it's really starting to look like we're going to need him in the starting unit. I would much prefer to bring him off the bench for a spark, but we simply don't have any scoring in that first unit outside of Mully and I fear digging ourselves a hole to start off every game is too much of a burden for the bench to overcome.
We'd love to get the youngsters the start, but there's no shame in starting Gordon. He's the highest paid player, has the best scoring resume, and has the most experience. As long as he plays within the team, I don't see any real problems with him starting. If Hendo needs any reassurance, he can look at Harden in OKC for proof that quality young talent doesn't need to start.Quote:

imma comment on the 3 pointer attempts in the dunlap preseason thread ,because im seeing some kinks in dunlaps coaching.
Gerald should take 3s if he's got open looks. Hard to judge without seeing the games but if the defense is giving hendo open 3s he has to take them, and its not Dunlaps fault if he doesnt make them. letting the opposing SG/SF sag off and roam around in the passing lanes/paint bogs down an offense so bad and it also hurts offensive rebounding. if Hendo can't hit open 3s its time he hit the bench. with him and MKG in there starting there just isnt enough offensive firepower on the wings to get anything going. Gordon as a 6th man scorer might be a luxury we cant afford.
hendo can put in a nice 15 points but its a tough tough 15 points, running him around double screens, those difficult post up shots almost everything from mid range. Gordon is more versatile which helps make everyone else better around him
I think it's imperative that Henderson start taking a lot more 3's. For him to be a starting-caliber SG in this league, he's going have to at bare minimum be a threat to attempt more 3-pointers. To this point in his career, it's rare that he even attempts them, much less makes them. This makes it much, much easier to lay off him, hinder his ability to get to the rim and as CatNation points out, bogs down the whole offense. That part absolutely needs to change, especially if MKG is our SF going forward.Quote:

shooting/making 3's is an privilege that can be taken out of context . its easier to score closer to the basket than it is further away . thats why the lg avg in 3 pt% is 35 and the avg fg % is around 45 . the object of the game is to get closer to the basket , thats why post players are at a premium not 3 point shooters . and, if hendo is an guard that can post up , come off screens, and penetrate then let him play his game because there are not many players who can do all three(the one's that can are all-stars) .
i don't think its required for an starting guard to make 3's just the same way; a starting point guard doesn't have court vision or past first mentality(westbrook), a pf who cant rebound(stoudamire), or a center who doesn't have any post play(okeafor). as a coach you hide your players discrepancies and highlight their strengths,but at the same time get them to buy in your philosophy . if hendo isn't a good 3 pt shooter ,wow who cares ?! he can do about 10 other things other guards dnt or can't do.side note, most teams have about 2 shooters in their rotations. if we have sessions,gordon,hendo,mullen,and biz as our primary(not starting) line-up that gives us more than enough shooting power without hendo taking numerous 3's?Quote:

His greatest strength is shooting the least efficient shot in basketball slightly more efficiently than most other players at his position. He's pretty much the definition of mediocrity at the SG position. If your teams primary option on offense is Gerald Henderson mid range jumpshots at 50% TS you're going to be well...we all saw last year.
