To those who argue you need a passing PG in order to be a contending team...I've done some research and please correct me if I am wrong (this is just according to yahoo sports -
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/stats/by...ar=season_2012). Kemba currently averages 5.1 assists through 7 games (small sample, I know). Now lets take a look at some of the past NBA champions of the league.
For the 2011-2012 season you have the Miami Heat
Mario Chalmers on the season averaged 3.5 assists
2010-2011 season you have the Dallas Mavericks
Jason Kidd averaged 8.2 assists
2009-2010 season you have the Los Angeles Lakers
Derek Fisher averaged 2.5 assists
2008-2009 season you have the Los Angeles Lakers
Derek Fisher averaged 3.2 assists
2007-2008 season you have the Boston Celtics
Rajon Rondo averaged 5.1 assists
2006-2007 season you have the San Antonio Spurs
Tony Parker averaged 5.5 assists
2005-2006 season you have the Miami Heat
Jason Williams averaged 4.9 assists
So where Kemba is at as of right now....only 2 PGs have beat him in assist numbers and gone onto win the championship over the past 7 years. Rajon Rondo is tied at 5.1....Point I am trying to make, is that Kemba's assist numbers are not that bad if you compare them to the teams that have gone onto win the finals. If we are to be a contending team one day, who is to say that Kemba can't lead us there? And if he is as clutch as he is, then I am all the more happy! I think that Kemba can be the future PG that we have been looking for. Time will only tell though.
