I'm just saying I remember watching this forum around draft time and seeing people talk about Drummond being really bad on offense and he's doing better than expected in the league. Now of course I understand that Noel doesn't have a body like Drummond but Noel is athletic and Drummond scores a lot off of alley-oops, which Noel can probably also do. Noel's hook shot is not that bad either.
I've watched Noel. Comparing him to Davis is way off. Davis was Tim Duncan coming out of college compared to Noel. Nerlins literally throws the ball at the rim in the lane about half the time within 10 feet. Raw is not even the word. If both he and Biz were already in the league and some team wanted to trade us Noel for Biyombo straight up i'd probably do it. There's no way in hell he's a big enough upgrade right now to burn a top 3 pick on though. There are numerous players in this draft that would help this team much more.
Watching Nerlens and Bismack on the same team tossing the ball at the rim over and over would make me want to vomit.
I think Noel can develop some nice offense in time b/c he's a very fluid player. Even DeAndre Jordan is slowly starting to figure out some post moves and I don't think it will take Noel nearly that long. I like the Chandler/Noah comparisons. I feel less optimistic of Noel and Biz coexisting than I did with Drummond and Biz. I think if we drafted Noel, it would be better to pair him with Mully and bring Biz off the bench or something.
Now that I think about it we should either draft a big with our pick and draft a sg or sf with Portland pick b/c we are in dire need for a big man we've got the worse front court in the league by far.
Bigs that will likely be available with our pick (according to nbadraft.net):
Noel, Zeller, Bennett, Len, Cauley-Stein, Austin
Bigs that will likely be available with the Portland pick:
McAdoo, Plumlee, Adams, Saric, Olynyk, Mitchell, Gobert, Leslie, Nogueira, Withey, Mbakwe, Dieng, Young, Oriakhi, DeShaun Thomas...
Scoring Wings that will be available with our pick:
Scoring Wings that will be available with Portland's pick:
Goodwin, Caldwell-Pope, McDermott, Hardaway Jr, Roberson, Oladipo...
Talent disparity of bigs b/w top 4 pick and Portland pick is not nearly as wide as talent disparity of wings b/w top 4 pick and Portland pick.
If all we need out of our big is to rebound, defend and hopefully low post scoring, then we have a much better chance of filling that with the Portland pick than a dynamic scoring wing.
If you want offense from a big man, Bennett and Olynyk come to mind. Those guys just have issues in other aspects of the game. It's sad that there is not anyone close to a complete big in the draft.
Would Kelly Olynyk be a great compliment to Bismack and MKG??
Don't sleep on this guy. He's 7'0", strong, and mobile. Really skilled offensively. Can pass well. He lacks length, but seems to hold his ground well whenever I see him play. Especially after what he did to BYU last night, he's on my radar. Maybe at the Portland pick.
I honestly don't know what would make him worse than a Cody Zeller. He's right there.
Plus he would be good side show as the goofiest looking big man in the league. But hey, if he produces, who cares??
