Just found this:
- NBA.com on the suns and Josh Smith.Quote:
While the Suns will express interest in Smith, they aren’t the only team that will make a run at the star forward. The Houston Rockets, Charlotte Bobcats and Dallas Mavericks have also been mentioned as potential suitors for Smith.
Alex Kennedy on Twitter just said the Bobcats have talked to the hawks about a trade and i'm pretty sure it would involve josh smith....and with this new email rod higgins sent out about spending money on free agents im worried we would give josh smith a max contract...
As posted in the other thread:
If were having talks with them about anybody, it better be Al Horford.
It would make sense for us to send some combination of Tyrus, Ben Gordon, and/or Diop to Atlanta in exchange for J-Smoove. We could let Smith's contract expire at the end of this season and let him sign with another team. Meanwhile, we sell some tickets as people come to watch Smith's amazing athleticism and killer dunks.
I think I'm the only one here that like the idea of us acquiring Josh Smith. I like his game, and think him and Kemba would mesh well. I wouldn't get him though if he will only sign long term with a 5yr/94mil deal. If we could sign him for a reasonably high contract I would be ecstatic. Not really sure what Atlanta will want in return for him but if we could keep Portlands pick so we get two picks this year, we could could be a really good team in two years. I still think our young guys would need another year to develop, especially the rookies, but after that and another decent free agent pickup this team could be really good. Also Smith would attract some good talent.
Would love to see our lineup next year being:
PG - Kemba, Sessions
SG- McLemore, Taylor
SF- MKG, Taylor, Adrien
PF- Smith, Mullens
C- Biyombo, Austin/Cauley-Stein
I actually like Josh Smith but I want a banger in the paint. We haven't had a guy that knew what to do in the paint since Diaw and he just refused to shoot.
I'm on the fence with Smith. We've been waiting several years to have the money to throw at someone, and maybe Smith is they guy. I don't agree that he is a max player, but with our history of attracting free agents, at some point we have to drop the cash on a player. How long are we going to be brides maids before being the bride? Smith is young, a scorer, entertaining and fills a need. However, he is in the Tyrus, Cousins, Rasheed Wallace kind of ticking time bomb mode. Looking around the league, outside of Al Jeff, Milsap, DMC, and Bargnianni, what other young borderline all-star 4's are out there to be had? I hate the max money being tossed out there, but if he would accept less, I think we could keep our core in place while adding a dynamic player to our arsenal.
Although his talent is undeniable I have serious doubts about him being able to produce and keep his head in a championship run, I don't ever want to find our team relying on Josh Smith of all people. Also I don't think we trade for him, our FO has been banging on about attitude, willingness to improve, being a winner... Smith does not tick any of those boxes. He has a nototriously bad attitude, hasn't ever stopped jacking up 3s and worked on his post game which he has needed to since his rookie year. He strikes me as someone who would rather get a max contract somewhere nice like Orlando than to take less money for a contender.
