A lot of teams have capspace this offseason...definitely a good year to be a free agent. Some guys are gonna be overpaid so it's hard to say what happens. I think he'll get PT here and he could possibly still be the starter (I know a lot don't want to think that...but I'd rather start him than overpay the crop of FAs this year). If we're in the ballpark I think we can still retain him.
I liked what he brought to the table after we traded for him. I questioned the move at first, as I liked Warrick and didn't think it would make a difference, but he preformed well here.
That being said, we should only sign role players AFTER we put in offers for the big names this summer. McRoberts is good, but plenty of other good players will be looking for work. We need to focus on assembling a core before putting complementary pieces around one.
B) Glen Davis, Jameer Nelson, JJ Redick, and Aaron Afflalo are all older than McRoberts and were playing the lions' share of minutes at their respective positions during the first half of the season for Orlando. It isn't like Orlando decided to commit to a rebuild and decided "anyone older than 25 can kick rocks". He would have been the youngest guy in the starting lineup on opening night had he beat out Nik Vucevic in training camp. As far as backup minutes go, he was simply outproduced by Andrew Nicholson, and the stats bear it out.
C) It's not in any way telling that McRoberts wasn't able to beat out Troy Murphy or Andrew Nicholson for minutes?
Nick collison has been a fundamentally sound role player that Okc has kept for years and still fits into their long term plans, before the rebuild. If Charlotte can keep mcbob for a role players salary, which is what he is worth then there's no reason to let him go.
He's not a future starter but he could be a big part of the bench unit moving forward
Guys, this team is going straight to the top. Let's not waste money on McRoberts. We should first sign a Tim Duncan-quality PF and a Shaq-in-his-prime type C. Top it off with someone at least as good as MJ to run offense through, and maybe a LeBron or two at SF, and our roster will be almost set. Cut McRoberts. He sucks.
I like McBob, but only for cheap. If he goes somewhere else it isn't going to make us or break us. We have another down year coming more then likely. I really don't care if he walks.
Glen Davis: 3 years, $19.4 million
Jameer Nelson: 3 years, $25.2 million
JJ Redick: 1 year, $6.2 million (the biggest, best expiring FA contract on the market)
Aaron Afflalo: 4 years, $30 million
Andrew Nicholson was a rookie 1st round pick. Of course they would choose to prioritize all of those guys during total rebuild.
