Have to get this off my chest... my opinion on the cold, harsh reality of our...
I agree with polarcat, Lance had serious issues before the draft, but I would assume Indys leadership isn't simply just holding him down, but rather is teaching and instilling maturity and perspective along the way. Some people learn slower, but it seems he more fully understands his opportunity and doesn't want to go back to the old ways.
And I do absolutely think we have just as strong a locker room as Indy now. Big Al is definitely a big brother role model like West. Kemba, mkg, and biz are balloholics whose work ethic would surely impress upon lance, and these guys don't seem the easily influenced type, but moreso are leaders by voice and/or example.
Also, aren't Kemba and lance good friends from back in the day? That could also continue the great chemistry we have, and allow lance to fit in and keep focus on basketball.
And let's not overlook the coaches. Clifford is definitely not a pushover and is not afraid to get on your ass, but he also knows when to tone it down and talk to someone like a man. Then with Ewing and Price, they already have instant respectability and credibility due to their all star pedigree, and can play a mentor/father figure role.
And finally, here's where the Jordan factor could definitely be in play, as I'm sure lance idolized Jordan, and would listen to any and all advice he has.
Plus, seeing the hornets halftime presentation, it seems the team goes all out in its professional treatment of basketball operations, and lance could be mesmerized by a flashy presentation and gives us as good a shot as any to sign him away. I say why not give it a shot, his kind of talent is worth the gamble, and I don't thinks its really a gamble anymore at this point.
