January was the first winning month in franchise history
Last month was the first over .500 month in franchise history. What do you think was the root cause of the (hopefully permanent) turnaround that we had in January?
* Playing Crash at PF
* Not having Brevin Knight on the court
* Emeka Okafor getting more involved offensively
* or something else entirely
What do you think was cause?
Re: January was the first winning month in franchise history
I think everyone is contributing equally much more better than last year. I already knew Gerald could play most of the positions but either way he's a threat.
It would look like without brevin we win more games but thats just an obvious retreat answer.
Okafor is certanly getting more involved and its great to see his power and skill to the game he puts out every night.
Grats Bobcats. All of you for contributing a winning month. Lets do it again!!!
Re: January was the first winning month in franchise history
Gerald plays more aggressive on the offense, Emeka gets more involved on the offense, Adam plays as the 4th or 5th shooting option on the court, which takes pressure off of his shoulders. Felton tries to meet the ball with Oak around the rim. Veterans do their job well both on and predictably off court.
I believe we changed our offensive structure. But also defensive plays lead fast-breaks. We're becoming a real threat against any team.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Adam is going to be good in a year or two, but the Bobcats really assumed to much when they thought that Adam could be the primary scoring option on this team from day 1. In a year or 2, its likely that he will be. Just not yet.
Re: January was the first winning month in franchise history
I think the biggest reason for our success this year is the emergence of Matt Caroll as a scoring threat, the continued development of Okafor as an elite big man in this league, and overall team chemistry. Everyone knows their roles right now and we're flourishing because of it.

Thats great news go bobcats

I think Felton has been looking to put the ball in Okafor and Wallaces hands in better spots on the floor. The outside presance of Carrol helps to stop the dubble . And the experance or Anderson helps keep the team calm.
The pick and roll has become all most unstopable. Felton has got a lot better in the pick and roll. Charlotte has become a great pick and roll team. Getting rid of the small back court helps a lot on the defenceive side .
Finaly getting in to a rotation helps more than you can think ,ever body knows thair jobs.

Couldn't agree more. All players have chemistry, and we have vets that know their roles. Getting rid of the small backcourt definitely helps out as well.
Matt Carroll developing, Oak developing, and crash developing has become out biggest reasons. Felton has progressed but not the point of the others. Gerald is consistantly putting up monster games.
On the topic of Crash, does Shawn Marion play Power forward at all? Both seem to have the similar build and are similar all around (minus crash's defense). If so, think he can consistantly play with other power forwards, or is this a temporary thing?
Our depth is a key factor is well. We have players who can do garbage time and still be decent players. A big upgrade was getting Jeff Mcinnis and GETTING RID OF KEVIN BURLESON!
Re: January was the first winning month in franchise history
i think you guys have pretty much covered it...
1) emergence of matt carroll as scoring threat
2) emergence of okafor/wallace as threats to do ANYTHING
3) raymond and ammo getting more comfortable in their roles
4) overall team chemistry is MUCH improved
5) NO MAJOR INJURIES *knocks on wood*

That's why I've always thought Bobcats as the successor of Suns' small ball style.
Crash-Marion
Okafor-Amare
Felton-Nash
Carroll-Bell
No Diaw yet.
But those similarities are enough to go for small ball IMO.
