hard core gamers prefer the xbox. xbox live community is far superior to ps3 online and there are more and better titles that are exclusive to the xbox. however, if you are not a serious gamer (judging by the fact you are still deciding which one to get i would venture to say you aren't) most of the most popular titles sans halo are available on ps3, the online is free as opposed to a yearly fee for the xbox, the wireless card comes with the ps3 as opposed to having to buy it for xbox and the ps3 has a blu ray player in it so it can double as an hd dvd player. if you have a net flix account you can also stream movies through the ps3 right out of the box as opposed to buying the wireless card etc for xbox.

basically it boils down to you not minding that you can't play halo and a few other games and aren't on the best online community. if all you want to do is play 2k10, modern warfare etc, i would go with the ps3.

Whatever FPS games that are exclusive to the 360 doesn't really matter as Modern Warfare 2 is the best shooter on the market and is cross platform. Every sports game is available on both markets and the racing games are a wash. There are little secondary games that are exclusive but those aren't really huge releases.

XBL vs. PS3 online debate is laughable. I can send messages, join parties through names, view profiles, open a chat room/video chat. Access to a store to buy extra content and Playstation Home (pretty cool). Full browser for internet access. PS3 doubles as a mass storage device for music, pictures, and video. If you have a Netflix, you can use it to watch movies (without having to buy extra stuff). If you have a PSP, you can use it to remotely operate your PS3 (pretty fucking cool if I had one lol)..... all for free. Then you look at the Blu-Ray drive and the ability of the PS3 to double as a high end DVD player....

I'm a pretty serious gamer, and I've never had any issues playing. I can bring it home and hook an ethernet cord up and be on my way, or I can go to school and use the wireless without issue (and without having to buy extra stuff).

I guess if you HAVE to play Halo and other nominal exclusive games to the 360 then get that, but I hope you don't mind paying to use their internet service and don't mind replacing it every 6 months because of the "red ring of death".

All in all, the 360 is a good system that does a good job of playing games. The PS3? Well, it only does everything. For a much smaller long term hassle/price

For those with a 360, be sure to add your gamertag to the leaderboard.

If all you're interested in is gaming, go 360. Except for Uncharted (and I guess I can throw in Resistance just to be nice), 360's exclusive titles destroy PS3's. Gears of War, Halo, Mass Effect, Bioshock (for a year, that is), and others that escape me are fabulous games. If you're interested in having a multimedia machine like Swedd describes, PS3 is the way to go.

Online bells and whistles are much better for the 360, but then again, you're paying $50 a month for the access, and even then you have to buy a lot of these bells and whistles....gamerpics and themes and such. Also, 360's achievements, which make up your gamerscore are so much cooler and easier to understand than PS3's trophies. I mean, your achievement points add up to make your gamerscore...the trophies? It's based on stars and percentage points until you get to the next star....WTF? However, I actually like to chat a lot more on PS3 than 360. It seems like 360, to generalize is full of dorks whispering into their mics, while PS3, again generally, has a broader range of gamer and is more fun to play with if your friends aren't on.

The hardware itself? PS3 is the hands-down winner. I've had my PS3 since November '07 and it's run smooth as silk to this day. I got my 360 September '08 and as I type, I'm fixing to have it shipped off to either get repaired or replaced which takes a month or so. On the other hand, the 360 has the best controller ever made for any console...perfect layout and shape for the hands. The PS3 is just too damn small...from the controller itself to the buttons, to the analog sticks.

Overall, the most fun system is the 360, but it comes with a free game that no one wants....the wait and see game of when is my machine going to crap out. I'd still go 360, just, by all means, get the longest warranty the place you're buying it from offers.

LOL From the "You can either laugh at it or cry" department, my goddam PS3 crashed with the same exact goddam problem my 360 went down with a couple weeks ago....fucked-up lens/disk drive. And while my 360 had plenty of time left on the warranty and shouldn't SHOULDN'T be a problem to get resolved, my PS3 was way past it's warranty so I had to buy another. The irony on this purchase is that it has 3x the memory and cost $100 less in terms of its retail value than the one I got in '07.

I love my Wii, but I'm going through massive MW2 withdrawal and Mass Effect 2 is being delivered to my house next week and I won't even have a system to play it on

I know, I know But still, it blows my mind how incredible the software of the generation of games is, but how absolutely terrible, I mean fucking godawful the hardware is. I mean, geezus, my ancient NES that I got in the 4th grade (1989) still works for Pete's sake. And if you want to talk about disk-reading consoles, my original launch PS2 (fall 2000) is running as smooth as the day I got it. Smells like a racket by the industry if you ask me: they get us hooked on their games, and make faulty hardware so we're forced to spend money on consoles every two years. Yeesh....

Stepping down from soapbox......for the time being

Apparently a lot of these broken Blu Ray drives are because of the most recent PS3 update. (3.15 I think) They've seen a sudden spike and they believe the update has a lot to do with it.

My is still functioning, thank God.

After the NES and SNES I've had during the early 90s, I've never bought another console. Even though the tech was a tad obsolete by then, I was rocking on my Commodore 128 and enjoying it far more than I've ever enjoyed playing on any of the consoles (got the BASIC all figured out and spent most of the time composing nonsense)... then came my first PC and I was sold on it. The only failure I've experienced with the rigs I've owned (two, actually, with a dozen upgrades) in 11 years was a faulty PSU which the warranty covered (got the PC back the same day thanks to the nifty service the IT seller's tech crew provided).

I'm just gloating, don't mind me...
