Default If Larry Brown leaves the Bobcats at the end of this season...

And I sincerely hope that this does NOT happen,

But for various reasons (possible sale of the team, LB possibly tiring of being away from his family) it is a real possibility.

If it did happen, who do you think would/should become our next coach?

I think that most believed that Dave Hanners was the heir apparent, but if Postolos buys the team that may not hold true.

I'd think a Houston-type guy would be the pick

Jeff Van Gundy: needs no introduction - ESPN
Elston Turner: he's been a head coaching interviewee multiple times and was a HC in the CBA - Rockets staff
T.R. Dunn: former Hornets asst. and Sting HC, along with Kings and Nugs asst work - Rockets staff
Joe Prunty - he's worked as an assistant for the SPurs with Pop and the Mavs, is currently with Kevin Pritchard - Blazers Staff
Dean Demopolous - former college coach, Nate McMillan's lead assistant - Blazers staff

I'm not suggesting any of these guys, but that's the type I see Postolos adding. I'd love Jeff, I'd take Elston or Dean and not be pissed. Others, ehh.

And I'd like to interview Mike Fratello, Sam Mitchell, Lawrence Frank, Byron Scott, Paul Silas, Avery Johnson, and Del Harris (yes, I know he's older than Dick Bavetta)

A coach who cares about the future/player development and not so much about saving his own reputation/ass.Our future looks very bleak right now,Derrick Brown says "move over Hendo i'm part of the DNP club now"
    captaincrunk:
I think Hendo is the next MJ. Clearly already a better player than MJ was at this point in his career. Maybe better than SJack. We'll have to see but, this guy looks like 2nd GOAT (behind Allen Iverson) material to me

As long as we dont bring back any old coaches, I think we'd be fine...

If he leaves, and I hope that he doesn't, I'd like for them to take a look at Avery Johnson.

What is it about Avery Johnson that appeals to everyone? His team turned on him in a little over a year. I am also not a big fan of Byron Scott. He seems to wear out his welcome fairly quickly too. I am just not convinced either guy has it all: teaching, motivation, x's/o's, public relations. Both would probably make the fan base initially happy (everyone loves a big name, right?) but I don't like the potential impact on the team long term.

I know its not sexy, but Weezy mentioned Lawrence Frank and I always thought he did an admirable job with the mess he had in NJ (outside of this yr, obviously). I also really like Scott Skiles (I know he has a job already) and Sam Mitchell.

Assuming the roster is materially the same, I'd like to see a coach who will sincerly look to push the tempo, think Westphal but not Doug Moe. This team is SO much better when they get out and run and I really wish LB would up the tempo some. When we run, we don't settle for jump shots with people in our face, we get to the rim or get fouled.

I like Avery FFP because I think he sends a clear message. I like that he appears to communicate well. He understands his teams strengths and seems to be able to adapt to them meaning that he can be flexible.

Oh, and I should have mentioned Sam Mitchell. I think he would be great. The Raps played a very good "share the ball" type of style under him. They'd swing the ball SO well and I think he would suit our players.

I'd be ok with pretty much any of those names listed above except Del Harris. He obviously knows the game and has tons of experience, but isn't he basically Larry Brown part II. He'd be 73 by the time next season started. No way he coaches more than a couple of years max. I'd like to get a guy who could establish some continuity. I know the shelf life for any coach isn't that long, but we're at a point where we could establish ourselves as a playoff caliber team for the next several years. It would be nice if we had a coach who could stay with the team throughout that run. As good as Brown has been for us, you know the end is coming soon, whether we get new ownership or not. I just don't think we need to keep setting ourselves up for that type of upheaval every couple of years.
