I know the shelf life for any coach isn't that long, but we're at a point where we could establish ourselves as a playoff caliber team for the next several years. It would be nice if we had a coach who could stay with the team throughout that run. As good as Brown has been for us, you know the end is coming soon, whether we get new ownership or not. I just don't think we need to keep setting ourselves up for that type of upheaval every couple of years.
If Larry did walk away I doubt it would have anything to do with his age.

If LB walks away from this team at the end of the season, we're stuffed. We don't have much of a future.

D.J has gotten minutes, but is he really the future for us?
Hendo is our future SG, but he's seen little to no game time at all. As such LB has completely stunted his growth.
UPS broke into the rotation, then LB kicked him out. Also having his growth stunted, but not as badly.
Diop warms the bench with Acie on a daily basis.

If he walks out, I want a coach to develop our younger players and build around Jax+Wallace.

I don't see it as that bad. Assuming we re-up Felton we'd have the same team next year with a big ass expiring in TC. Nazr isn't getting any younger, but whoever would replace LB (hypothetically...I'm in Scarlett O'Hara mode on him leaving) is starting out a helluva lot better than LB did himself.

The guys at least know how to play as a team now.

So far as "future"...Felton will 26 and Crash will be 28. Jax has at least another year or two performing at his current rate and even Nazr (assuming TC starts eating his minutes) can probably keep up his production til the last year of his deal where we can cash out on him.

Ya don't have to have a buncha 21 year olds in order to have a future.

^Exactly Spectre, the world isn't all 2k10 or ESPN.

I don't like Avery because if you can't please Mark Cuban's guys, its hard to win elsewhere. He's an easy guy to please. Yes, really. And listening to him on ESPN, he doesn't seem to know the game.

Del is a lifer, he'll coach until he can't.

I'd love Sam Mitchell, I'd like Lawrence Frank, but I think it'll end up being one of those guys I mentioned.

LB has improved our D but I don't see him being our coach that much longer. Here is my wish list.

Coach K - great feel for players, good game coach

Mike Dantoni - like the style he plays and I think it would be great for felton, wallace, diaw, TC, Hendo, Brown

Rick Carlisle - always thought he did a great job getting teams to play above there heads sign of a good coach

Bruce Pearl - great game coach, controlled chaos fun style of play to watch would be very good system for wallace

Kenny the Jet - seems to have good insight knowledge of the game would make a good coach

    Oh, boy.

    Okay. Coach K isn't leaving Duke, and he's 62 I think.

D'antoni and Carlisle are gainfully employed as head coaches in bigger markets.

    Pearl, ehh, he's too flashy.

Kenny might ok, but I don't know how much I'd like to trust a guy coming off a tv show with a playoff team.

Larry is "under contract" until the end of the 10-11.. so even if he doesnt leave this offseason, I doubt he re-signs... we all knew this was short term

Anyway does anyone think any of our assistant coaches have what it takes to be a head coach?

IF, and that's a big IF, MJ can find the money to buy the team, then I am fairly sure that Dave Hanners will take over after next season, with LB and Herb retiring, and I'm confident that he, Phil, and co. can do a good job. Dave is a very smart guy and has been around Dean and LB his whole career. I think he'd do very well.

I don't think Phil is a head coach, but he's a solid assistant.

And whoever is in charge, we need better FT coaching...

    1. Jeff Van Gundy - Young, but has never had a losing season. Sure he had better talent with those teams, but I think he would be a great coach to step in for after Brown leaves. Plus he has history with potential owner George Postolos in Houston.

    2. Sam Mitchell - I think the man was unfairly fired in Toronto and is a great coach, if I can't get Jeff Van Gundy to come to town, Mitchell is my plan B. He's another young guy who played the game and knows the game well. Did well in Toronto and got them to the playoffs 2 straight seasons before getting fired with an 8-9 record.

    3. Byron Scott - Has improved his teams each year he's been with them. He took the Nets to two NBA Finals (even though they lost) and made the Hornets a powerhouse again. Gave them the 4th best record in the league in 07-08 season with 56 wins.
