Default Should the Bobcats buy the Atlanta Hawks draft pick

... because supposedly they are willing to sell.

Sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski that the Hawks are willing to sell their first-round pick for $3 million, to help pay for Johnson's salary.
For the same reason, Atlanta will likely offer no more than a three-year contract between $1.8 million to $2 million per season to a possible successor to head coach Mike Woodson.

Is it worth it? Is there anybody in the late first round that can make the roster next season and possibly contribute in a season or two?

I don't know how willing they'd do it, but It'd be cool to do a "we'll give you 3 million in trade for the player we want that you draft" instead of just buying the pick outright. that said Luke Babbitt is supposed to go a pick or two earlier, but he seems to be adequate to back up thomas, so we can trade away diaw.

Someone will fall (like UPS and Blair last year) and that alone makes the pick valuable. There are always gems right at the end of the first round, so why not? Cheaper than signing veterans.

I'm not very into the college scene. Can anyone tell me of suggestions they have for a player, assuming we get the draft pick? What would we be looking for anyway?

Vernardo, I don't know if it is that great an idea actually. Unless we make some trades we don''t have a lot of playing time to offer. I doubt we could draft a 4 that could come in and be better then Boris or Tyrus. There aren't any pgs we can pick that will be better then felton. It is to late to be looking for a center and we already have plenty of those. It would be silly to draft a sg unless we have given up on Hendo. At sf same deal. We can't get Brown, who we like, in the game and Wallace plays all the minutes anyway. It would be nice to stock another asset but that 3mil would be put to better use resigning Felton.

Does buying a pick go against the cap? I don't think it does, I think it's just cash out of MJ's pocket. Of course a first does come with a contract, but it should be fairly minor.

If we lost ray, maybe we get a PG, Rajon Rondo went 21st, I wouldn't say that its too late to get a good PG.

If we decide to trade Thomas, which I'm HIGHLY against then I highly suggest finding a 4, or even better, find someone who wants to trade Diaw for a 3 point threat SG and maybe will include a pick, then definitely getting a 4 would be awesome.

of course we should at least try it. This will be such a deep draft and you'll definitely get a solid player in the late first round

If it were me...I'd try to buy two "high" second round picks for less money than one first...there will be some good (at least eventual rotation) players in the upper second round...I'm also big on a project kid like Alexey Shved who can be had in the second round...

Brackins and Shved would be a "value" draft I could live with...

3 million for a 24th pick? Hell no. That's also a guaranteed pick, and with our draft history I think the odds are it'd be like pissing money away.

Agreed with BRNC...if you want a pick go for a high 2nd. They're at least non-guaranteed.
