I'd be willing to add Shaq, but at a much cheaper price. Would he be willing to play here though if he didn't feel that we were championship caliber?
Brown's price tag
Question: Why did all the rumblings about Larry Brown wanting to leave the Bobcats to coach the Sixers or Clippers instead, so prevalent in May and June, quietly fade away?
One answer: NBA coaching sources say that Bobcats owner Michael Jordan made it clear to Brown and any interested team that the Bobcats would insist on compensation -- presumably draft considerations -- to let Brown out of his contract.
protecting our best asset.
also, from that same article:
what do you think of offering shaq a 2 year/15 or 16 mil contract? it will probably be better money than he can get elsewhere (unless he is more interested in years). he's a hell of a lot better than anything we got now. we can platoon him with nazr. use damp's contract to take on a point guard. we can still move diaw too. just trying to see if we can start a new run of ideas not involving NO, WAS or GS. maybe this needs a thread on its own if it takes off.

ok i am responding to my own thread. what a loser.
sign shaq as above. trade dampier and nazr to indy for gulp..tj ford and troy murphy. why, we need a point guard and he is expiring and capable. murphy gives us an outside in center/pf for a killer athletic front court in crash, tt and murphy. he makes up for all of shaq's weaknesses.
tj/dj/livingston/diaw
jax/hendo/hammer
crash/jax/ups
tt/diaw/edwardo
murphy/shaq/diop
i think that lineup competes very well and if hot could be playing in june. and if it doesn't work both murhpy and tj are expirings and could give us the assets to lose diop or gain young talent/picks.
How would we do that? We aren't under the cap and we've used part of the MLE on Livingston.what do you think of offering shaq a 2 year/15 or 16 mil contract
I suppose we could do a S&T, but IMO he's not worth near that in the first place.

If you guys think LB would hate Monta or Gil, wait 'til he looks at Shaq's deplorable P&R defense.
That said, I'd be willing to toss the rest of the MLE his way if he wanted it.
After LB took on Jax and not murdered him I'm afraid to proclaim anyone as NOT a Larry Brown type of player.
I think the old man has mellowed immensely. It looks to me that so long as a player will buy in and try LB will likewise make the effort to put up with him.

Shaq only wants to play for teams he feels can win a championship right now. His "titles competition" with Kobe is one reason. The other is that Shaq still thinks he can dominate night in and night out and wants to get paid for it.
I wouldnt mind Shaq as long as its for one year. We need to clear space and try to sign a fee agent next year. i hate it, but by letting Felton go and Chandler, we have basically said " we are gonna take a step back to take 2 forward'. we could and likely can still make the plaoffs again as a 6-8 seed, but to get better we need a star or two. Dont sign anybody to anymore deals past a year unless they are stars.
I'm still hoping we are waiting until we can trade Dampier in combination with other players in order to put a big deal together.
