Lady Bobcats Thong Night
If you were MJ, Rod and LB what direction would you take the team starting today. Would you stay under the tax or go over? What roster moves would you make? What PLAUSIBLE trades would you do to improve for this season, clear space or acquire draft picks or young talent? What style of play would you install? What ideas would you have to fill the stands and/or improve game experiences? How would you improve our TV deal?
Take the helm.

I'd keep trying to make a deal for a starting-caliber PG...
I like what they're doing this offseason (or rumored to be attempting). I think it has a good chance of biting us in the ass, but I applaud them for their gamble.
Haven't said that in like...ever.

I was talking about this with a buddy this morning. What I don't know is our current long term plan. Here are my thoughts on how we should play, based on a couple of principles that I suggest can be taken as true for this discussion.
(1) Defense is less expensive than offense. As a small market team, this should be important.
(2) High flying and high scoring brings in more revenue because that's what people want to see, that sells jerseys, brings sponsors, etc.
Now, these 2 principles seem at odds, but they don't have to be. We already have the defensive players to an extent. In order to generate exciting offense, we need to run more (in a way that doesn't compromise our D too often).
Larry was hesitant to run last year, because that wears out your players and he only had about 7 he trusted. Hopefully Hendo, UPS, and one or two others can earn that trust and we can run more to generate inexpensive offense. Right now I count about 9 trustworthy players who will all attempt to play defense and other than Boris and Nazr will run. If I were in charge, I would build the team to continue this way. It may not work to the fullest in the playoffs, but at some point a young defensive athlete (cough Tyrus) may develop into a playoff style offensive post presence and then you will begin to have the makings of a playoff savy team.
mma at the half? pro's vs. joes at the half? one on one vs the owner at the half? 5 random fans vs. jordan and oakley at the half? go-cart races vs. local nascar pro's? dunk tank of urine and BOA exec's?
This whole CP3 drama (and you can add Carmelo to the list) really has me scratching my head about what the team will look like in November. Damp's contract is obviously a very valuable asset so even if we don't land an allstar with it, we can certainly use it in a 3 way to get something back. However I am thinking about the future now instead of short term fixes.
Look at Oklahoma City's roster and how they built it through the '07-'09 drafts. Now look at their future and how bright it is. Yes, one can argue that the Ray Allen trade worked to their favor but I think we have a similar desired player on our roster with Damp's contract. I would like to go their direction and add more players from the draft.
If any of the rumors are true that we would have to take Posey and Okafor back to get CP3 I don't want him for just a two year rental. That would put us with 4-5 bad contracts on the books which has long term disaster written all over it. The writing on the wall seems to have CP3 and Carmelo positioning themselves to be in New York ASAP (although I wouldn't count out NJ).
Why not move Damp sometime before the season starts for the best offer that gives us the best combination of these three things: 1) cap relief, 2) decent young talent, 3) draft pick(s).
We may be able to attach The Hammer's contract to the deal (we really don't need him). If New Jersey wants to risk it all for a 1-2 year rental of CP3 and Carmelo, how about Damp for two future 1sts?
It is time to start looking for LB's replacement (Hanner's perhaps) and thus stop trading away everything we have for short term fixes to please a coach. I am willing to give DJ the point to start the season and see what happens. Damp may come back to us for our remaining MLE (I just hope it is for only one year). I kind of like this team the way it is now and I think MJ needs to look way beyond this season.
