We're wanting some cap relief. This seems to be following along with ourday's post as well.
Bear in mind I have little-to-no interest or knowledge of the business/money/capology side of the game, but didn't we save a good chunk of money by cutting Ericka, and secondly, wouldn't that extra year on Harris's contract only effect our team salary in that third season, not this season or the next? I can understand the including DJ for nothing extra reluctance, but not sure why salary would be an issue going into this season.

Ohh okay I see what your saying now.

But still I like what MJ is doing but if Melo signs and the teams are ready to make the deal, just do it

Remember, MJ is not holding up this deal.

He has no say so in the matter until Melo signs the extension and says he'll go to New Jersey.

Once Melo agrees, the chips will fall.

If Melo doesn't agree, this doesn't happen.
But Melo's ego doesn't say yes or no until a deal is in place (which does require MJ's approval).

Yep, the things I'm seeing seem to have the deal in place and everyone just waiting to see if Carmelo will go for it. I did hear Marc Stein on Sportscenter say that Carmelo's camp would like the Bulls or Knicks to get involved since this info is out there, but any Chicago deal has to include Noah for Denver to bite (which the Bulls aren't doing) and the Knicks flat-out have nothing to offer anyone. So, if Carmelo wants to be in or near New York as well as get his $65 million, this is going to be his best bet. Let's hope that Russian billionaire is also a fantastic salesman.

Yup. I think we're around 5 million below the LT. We would be on the hook for around 44 million with 7 players in his last year though...so it does have some legitimacy.

I'm still buying the posturing line. MJ is going to try and stay cost consious but we all know he wants to win. Devin when healthy is a deadly PG and he plays defense. You know he and LB wants him and probably badly...esp. since we're not giving up any core players.

If what Berger says is true the deal falls flat without us and Utah & NJ are ITCHING to do this trade.

    Stein:

Another source: Melo warming to idea of Nets, whose planned move to Brooklyn in two years under Russian billionaire Prokhorov is strong lure

But source says Melo hoping Knicks or Bulls, his top choices, lodge last-ditch trade bids this weekend. Melo really wants to play w/Amare

Problem for Knicks and Bulls, however, hasn't changed. Knicks don't have first-round picks to sweeten deal and Bulls will NOT part w/Jo Noah

I think that if the Knicks/Bulls dont come up with something this weekend then Melo will sign in NJ

A few thoughts - If we send DJ, is there anyway we could nab a couple of picks in this deal? Even a 2nd rounder or two would please me. If we don't send DJ, I would be all over sending him to Sactown for Jason Thompson like someone else suggested (if they'd be interested...which I'd think they would considering how DJ would compliment Tyreke the Freak and how they have way too many bigs).

Harris/Jack/Crash/TT would make us better on both ends of the floor...and much more exciting to watch. We might even become a running team! I wouldn't be as opposed to keeping Collins if DJ was out, I don't want two sub-six footers though...if we end up picking up Crittenton we'd have a monster sized team where Harris would be our shortest player at 6'3 (If I'm not mistaken).

You can probably tell that this possibility excites me. There are times where I truly like Diaw, but this trade makes sense for so many reasons. A true NBA starting point in Harris would make him much more expendable. Boris has played his best ball alongside his close friend Raja, so I don't think Utah is getting the short end of the stick like many imply. He replaces some skills they lose in AK-47's movement. Diaw's passing skills could come in handy alongside Raja/Deron/Millsap/Big Al & Okur...and don't forget Gordon Hayward. Just playing on Hayward, that kid looks too much like Macaulay Culkin to be decent in the NBA.

But the Nuggets have signed off on the proposed deal and now await word from New Jersey about its ability to sell Anthony on the extension, which does hold significant appeal because it would enable Anthony to sign one more contract under the league's current collective bargaining agreement.
With NJ & Utah hot to go it looks like it's all up to Anthony AND what we can finagle out of the deal.
