I don't know exactly the criteria for 6th man but I doubt he qualifies for it by the end of the season. He is showing big improvements and I expect him to be in the starting lineup at some point this year (probably sooner than later).
I know it's early but in 8 games in only 21.1 mins a game Tyrus is avg.
12.1 pts
5.3 rbds
1.25 stls
1.88 blks
48% from the field
84% from the line
He so far is well worth that long term contract over the summer. I think with more time throughout the year he could make a serious run at being the Bobcats 1st 6th man award winner. Is that to big a dream this early in the season?

Yeah, it's a tough award to win when you start the last 60 games of the season.
Averaging 12 and 5 playing only 21 minutes a game is impressive, and I wonder how long it'll be before he's starting. Thing is though, Boris is actually playing good basketball, but who knows what will happen. ILBIT

124 sports writes and broadcasters get to vote for the 6th man, they cast number 1 2 and 3 votes. Players were awarded five points for each first-place vote, three points for each second-place vote and one point for each third-place vote. To be eligible a player has to come off the bench more games then they start.

Unless Tyrus starts at C like he did last night he wont start till we get rid of Diaw. LB has an unheathly man crush on that fat bastard for some reason. Tyrus is clearly money off the bench. I dont see any other bench player in the league with his stat line so....6th man of the year
I wonder if part of the reason we see Tyrus for 'limited' minutes is the 'painful arches' he has to get treatment for...I'm not big on arch injuries, but it sounds like something that only gets better by resting your feet (for more than the 1-2 days between games during the NBA season). Hopefully it's just a pain tolerance thing and also that Tyrus has a high level of pain tolerance.
See link for the mention of his injury: http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_th...cker-room.html
I would say that by the time the media was admitted to that locker room, following the second loss in as many nights to the New York Knicks, the ratio of media to players was 3-to-1. Many of the people you’d most want to interview – Gerald Wallace, Tyrus Thomas, Nazr Mohammed – were out of there before we ever came in.
Now, I’m not suggesting anything nefarious. Maybe they all just dressed fast and coincidentally some scooted out the back exit. Maybe it was the Thanksgiving holiday. And in Thomas’ case, it was about getting treatment for painful arches.
