    Default Bonnell Article on Felton

I don't agree with the entire spin put on how/why he left. His agent gave him piss poor advice the prior summer and he is in essence making the exact same thing the Bobcats offered the prior summer (if you adjust for cost of living differences between NY/NC) and the Cats deal would've been for 5 years through 2013-2014 season, versus the current 2 year deal he has with NY through 2011-12-3rd year is team option).

So thanks for bleeding Bobcat orange and blue and best of luck Ray (with the exception of the 4 times you play the Cats this year). Let's go DJ & Shaun

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. - You need someone to direct your basketball team? Raymond Felton might be your guy.

You need someone to direct you around New York's five boroughs? Felton...not so much.
The first time Felton attempted to drive himself from White Plains to Madison Square Garden, he ended up in New Jersey, 25 minutes and six toll booths out of his way. Never again will the new Knick leave his home without a GPS.

Felton might have left the Charlotte Bobcats for the Knicks, but he's no Broadway Joe. Doesn't want to be. He's White Plains Ray.

"This is one big city, and I'm a small-town boy. I'm not used to this,'' Felton said recently. "I'll stay out here in White Plains, thank you. It's kind of like the country.''
Remember that prior to this fall, Felton had never lived outside the Carolinas. He grew up in Irmo, S.C., with a population (1,410) that a Manhattan block could swallow. He played college ball at North Carolina, then his first five NBA seasons with the Bobcats.
This week he'll face his old team on back-to-back nights - Tuesday night at the Garden and Wednesday at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Felton never intended to leave Charlotte. He loved the town, loved the proximity to family, loved playing for coach Larry Brown. But his poor performance in the playoff series against Orlando, combined with the Bobcats' over-extended payroll, meant the team did little to retain him.

Felton could have taken that personally, a common response from pro athletes. Not Felton's way.

Steve Adamek - Felton expects to have "more than 500 people" at Wed. game in Charlotte incl. 77-yr.-old grandma. Other 1/2 of crowd Bobcats' responsibility about 15 hours ago via web

    Boom!

To Felton's credit, the NY Post tried to get him to trash talk Charlotte for not re-signing him but he wouldn't have any part of it. He's said nothing but good things about us and Larry Brown...much to their displeasure I'm sure.

The media is trying to make this a big deal...but it's just another two games we need to win against an inferior opponent.
