This is all that was written about it, so I guess that's all that needs to be said?
As much as some of you would prefer a name change from the Bobcats, that isn't a widespread concern, based on the team's recent market research. Pete Guelli, who heads the Bobcats' marketing, told me the team's recent market study showed no groundswell for a name change.

I personally preferred the name change, but obviously would be fine either way... But, I did wonder what exactly that "groundswell" they were looking for would be number-wise? I personally think the study was a crock. It was conducted by the Bobcats marketing department, and if MJ is in cost cutting mode anticipating the new CBA, wouldn't it make sense to say there's no desire to change the name by the fans?
Even the Observer poll was like 60/40 or 70/30 in favor of a name change IIRC. I have some serious questions about their "study."
I'm glad it's over. Quite honestly, if a fan is unwilling to support the team (or only willing to support it if they have a name they like) I could care less if they are a fan or show up at the games.
The recent change in coaching shows pretty well it's more about what happens on the floor with wins and loses than what name is across the front of the chest.
Go Bobcats
You're spot on with this. If someone is willing to stay away from the team for as little as a name, then I'd imagine if it did change, they'd find another minuscule reason to stay away. The performance on the court is what matters most...I know the last third of last season and playoffs, I was in a building full of people yelling "Let's Go 'Cats!" I was as big a Hornets fan as you'll find, but I really don't see a need for change. I'm glad this is put to bed and the Bobcats can be the Bobcats.
jordan hired a outside agency to do this study, & you can't look to the observer as a credible gauge IMO, most who post on that site have never been to a game or will ever go to a game. most are just misinformed haters who have issues with the arena & whatever other drama they come up with
I don't see how Jordan could continue to stomach the Bobcats name considering it was born out of Bob Johnson's ego. I mean, naming a team after yourself is pretty high up there with egomaniacal things owners have done. Not to mention that his son apparently picked the team's colors. The jerseys and the name are both pretty terrible.
90% of charlotte probably told them they wouldnt care about the team either way
I agree that winning changes everything and the name won't be a big deal if that happens. However, I really really really hate "Bobcats," its just a pretty lame name imo. (Maybe its b/c I hate cats).
