I finally got ahold of the 4th Eragon book on Christmas so i've been plowing through that for the past couple of days

It's a bit of an anticlimax to be honest, not as good as the first book, but neither were the other two.

Blindsight by Peter Watts.

If you're into SF, it's mandatory.

Bing, I'm trying my best to like this book ( and its not bad ), but every time I start reading it I nod off to sleep.

The events get progressively more interesting as the story unfolds (especially once sanity starts to crumble). A fair warning, though, the book does not feature a classic narrative structure. What I'm trying to say is that if you enjoy the way the author deconstructs psyche, cognition and consciousness and the way he deals with concepts from linguistics, biology, psychopathology etc., then keep reading. Conversely, if you're in it solely for the narrative and/or the inter-personal drama, then quit before you, eventually, get disappointed.

For me, it's a 5-star read, but it's not everybody's cup of tea.

the interview is moron especially the last two questions and you get the impression she loathes the military and "simple, alpha males" like him, but he i am glad he wrote the book. he is absolutely right about the american public. which is why we should only go to war when we need to defend our country, so the only ROE is kill any threat.

Can't believe I forgot about this thread. I read One Second After based on the recommendation. Combined with WWZ, the Road and Walking Dead, I feel like I should be taking notes from Doomsday Preppers.

Anyway, a few thoughts:
Unbroken was referenced. Great book. Read it and I dare you to complain about anything in your life ever again.
In the Garden of Beasts: it's about the US ambassador to Germany during Hitler's rise. Crazy stuff
ESPN: Those Guys have all the Fun: it's a must for us sports fans
Moonwalking with Einstein: a guy trains for the US memory championship. could've been shorter but very interesting
New York by Edward Rutherford: crazy long but amazing progression of family history

I'm going to pick one of these as my next book. Thanks for the recommendations all.
