Post Uncertainty of CBA Impacting Trade Market

    Trade talk? What trade talk?
While the persistence of rumors around Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony might lead some to believe that the NBA trade deadline -- just 11 days away -- will see massive shifts of talent, the reality is that there is much less trade talk this year than usual. Teams are, as they say, doing their due diligence, but there do not seem to be many teams willing to take a shot on big-time transactions at the deadline.

One reason is that several of the contending teams have already made their moves. In the East, Orlando made two sizable trades back in December. Boston and Miami had busy offseasons and would consider only minor changes. Chicago will consider an upgrade at shooting guard, but Chicago is inclined to wait for Joakim Noah to return and see how the team comes together.
Out West, San Antonio has limited trade options unless it is willing to give up one of its talented rookies, James Anderson or Tiago Splitter, and the team does not seem inclined to do so. Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said he would consider a trade, but the team is not parting with big man Andrew Bynum and really has no other desirable assets. If there is to be a big trade among contenders, the consensus is that it will be Dallas -- which sees its chances for a Dirk Nowitzki-led championship dwindling -- that makes the move.
But what’s really strangling this year’s trade market is the uncertainty of the next collective bargaining agreement, for which commissioner David Stern has put just about everything on the table -- franchise player tags, a hard salary cap, a severe rollback in players’ salaries. What often happens at the deadline is one struggling team with a high-priced star deals that contract away for an expiring contract and either young players or draft picks. That sort of deal figures to be hard to come by in this environment.
Most front-office executives remain tight-lipped about the new CBA. But there’s no question it’s having an impact on how teams are viewing their trade possibilities. “It’s really not the time to be giving up draft picks, which are one of the few things that you can figure on as far as being valuable assets,” one general manager told Sporting News. “There’s a lot of risk in just not knowing how things will shake out. You never know, things could change in the next week, but it doesn’t seem like a lot of teams are looking to pull the trigger right now.”
So while rumors around Anthony keep marching on, the rest of the trade front appears to be relatively quiet -- for now, at least.

I still think it will be a very "limited" trade season...and I'm not sure we will have any players moved...
