    Default draft day trade

let's say this trade was all set to go down because utah has signaled a rebuild. i want to get thoughts on would you be for this on the bobcats side. it is a lot of future money going into uncertain cap #'s and he has an injury history. salary next 3 years: 13,14,15.

utah out: big al, jeremy evans
char out: diaw, kwame, dj white, NO 1st, Port 2013 1st

starters 2011-12 if no other deals made
    dj
    hendo
    jax
    tt
    al jefferson

For me, it comes down to where the New Orleans' pick is. Al Jeff would drastically improve our team and as long as the pick isn't 8-10, I'd do it. In fact, I'd probably do it regardless, though it hampers signing any other players via free agency or trades to add depth to our bench because of his salary. Yes, our starting 5 would be nasty, but not a whole lot of bench players to speak of after them. Diaw, Kwame and White mean absolutely nothing to me, so I'm okay with them going out, and I'm not too concerned with Jefferson's injury, though it is there. Jefferson is the kind of big that I'd like and though we are giving up two 1st rounders, it would be worth it. Our draft day makes me nauseous whenever they are on the clock, so this trade would remove that...haha. Don't know enough about Evans to comment, so if he's got some upside, then that would help too.

I am a little concened about giving too much up for Al considering his injury. But my bigger hesitation would be I would want to see how the Draft was unfolding. Bobcats may have a possible shot at Enes Kanter in this draft, and I would rather keep our assets and roll the dice on Kanter over trading assets for Al.

I'd rather not. What's the point in trading Crash "so we can rebuild" just to turn around and take another older and injury prone player?

Rebuild means nobody over 25 anytime soon unless it's an expiring contract

That would be the 2nd biggest issue as to why I doubt we do any draft day trades to acquire players.

The biggest reason is the possiblity of a lockout and shortened season. Why would MJ, who is in obvious money saving mode right now, trade draft picks in late June for hefty contracts with no CBA in place as of July 1st? Nobody knows what the new cap and luxury tax figure may be. Best to plan and rebuild AFTER all the parameters are in place.

He's over 25 and doesn't have an expiring deal so he's out!

i agree with you. i think we go all out and try to get cp3 and/or howard in FA or traded with extension deals and if not then worry about other pieces. al is one of the few good centers but it isn't like people are paying to come see him so don't waste the money.

If you'd have asked me about this deal before we traded Crash, I'd have said yes without a doubt.

I think we make a push for Paul or Howard, but with Diop/Hammer on the books, we wont be able to get them unless we have a terrible surrounding cast. Sure makes that Crash trade look bad again.
