Default Pincus: The Eastern Conference Post-Deadline

Eric Pincus (Hoopsworld) looks at the Eastern Conference teams post-deadline...here is his glyph about us...

"The Charlotte Bobcats took a big step towards starting over when they dealt Gerald Wallace to the Portland Trail Blazers for expiring contracts.
The Bobcats are currently under the tax but even if Boris Diaw doesn't opt out of his final year at $9 million, the team is looking at just under $52 million in total salary next season.
Charlotte still has to get through the contracts of DeSagana Diop and Matt Carroll but there's not a ton on the books in 2012 and no one but Tyrus Thomas in 2013."

I just love how just about every story I've seen about the trade is positive, yet everyone makes it seem like the end of mankind.

Have you seen any story...better yet, any Portland fan at all that didn't love the trade?

I did not see anyone say the Blazers got screwed over. But I have read some Blazer sites where they questioned whether they gave up too much for him since SF was not a need. And they question his physical ability to play PF without injury (likely got that from reading Bobcat sites). And ESPN talking heads Rose, Bucher and Broussard said at the time of the trade that Charlotte came out very nicely. Honestly, most people outside of Charlotte and Portland fans seem to see it as a fair deal for both sides. But I did not see anyone say specifically that Portland was screwed over.

What grade do you give Blazers for the Wallace acquisition?

    In order:

I give the Wallace trade a solid C+/B-. If we can also get 1 or 2 solid FA’s, I will boost my score up to a B. I don’t count Collins as an addition worthy of credit.
Obviously he's grading for the overall after the trade.

The only reason you can say the Blazers did well by getting Wallace is they gave up nothing. So that is what Wallace attracted on the market, nothing. And, the Bobcats did real well IMO. The 2-1st round picks I rate as an overpayment.
I'd rate the trade an A +. I could care less about our record since we've gotten him, we got a heckuva player for much less than he brings to this team. His production so far has been great and I wouldn't take that move back for anything. Besides, I highly doubt that two heavily protected picks really hurt us too much...
As for the trade I give it an A+ in terms of incoming talent vs outgoing talent but some additional moves should have been made to clear the rotation for some of our players.
A+. It's all about adding talent, and we upgraded our talent immensely in that deal. 2 mid to late 1sts, and 2 expiring contracts for a former all star and all nba defensive first team.
judging just be talent in vs talent out, the trade is an A
I give it a A- I love Wallace and am glad he is here it really is too bad that we didn't get brooks...
A for talent in talent out
I love the versatility wallace brings us and we really gave up nothing to get him.
I can only give this trade an A grade. The Blazers give up little for a good player.
    and on and on.

As far as VALUE...every one of those RGM Blazers fans except the thread starter rated it mostly an "A" or better. Which fanbase has long been considered the biggest homers on the site? Blazers' fans.

The point is, if it was as fair to good as a lot in here are saying...shouldn't at least one or two think it wasn't fair or bad from their POV?

A lot of these pundits have bashed our team for years and called for our FO to blow it up. Making it appear that's what we're doing is just making those same pundits think they were right. Of course they're going to say it was a smart move on our part.
