Default Thoughts on all the gayness

what are your guys thoughts on the nba and espn's coordinated efforts to crack down and shame people into stopping to use the words gay, fag, etc.

the mature adult in me says that if these things do offend a (albeit very small) segment of the population we should as civilized nation stop using them.

the even more mature adult in me says that using the excuse that we always say "that's gay" or "i call people fags all the time" but don't mean it maliciously is a cheap cop out and ignores the feelings of others. but, i am even more tired of the PC police telling me what i can and can't say by using a virtual flogging through the media to guilt me into changing my behavior. and no, it is not hateful language if it is not meant that way, regardless of what others think.

do i think that we as a people should voluntarily respect the wishes of others to not use disrespectful language/insults, yes. do i think we should be forced by some sort of gestapo who thinks they know what is good for us to use the intense pressure of the government and corporate (they are basically the same thing now) machine to make us, hell no.

It's in the best interest of the league to not cause any sort of controversy. Last thing they want is gay rights groups and some portion of middle america to be offended and stop watching/buying.

It's a business in the end and so the "bosses" get to decide what is acceptable in the workplace and what isn't. Same as when I'm in the office and I can't say those things as it would damage my company's reputation.

^Exactly. I wouldn't get away with calling someone else at work a faggot or mocking their agenda, gay or straight, so it is what it is. Just like you wouldn't get away with calling someone a nigger, or black c**t or white trash at work, school...without getting penalised in some shape or form.

I think Hendo is the next MJ. Clearly already a better player than MJ was at this point in his career. Maybe better than SJack. We'll have to see but, this guy looks like 2nd GOAT (behind Allen Iverson) material to me

I am certainly not a fan over over political correctness, but some things do need to be stopped just for the sake of being respectable to one another. I love and cherish the 1st Amendment, but I do also respect boundries of being tolerant and good to one another.

agreed. especially with the faggot comments which are getting the fines. i have a bigger issue with the "gay" commercials. i don't view that has hateful language. i really do hate the forced apologies from noah and kobe though. don't say sorry if you aren't and if you were you wouldn't use the word in the first place. i would never have to apologize to a black person for using the n word in a heated argument, because i don't use that word period. (unless of course i am rapping gangsta style within the safety of my car)
