The Bismack Biyombo Thread

Haven't posted in awhile but I have been reading alot of the comments/posts going on here at Bobcatsplanet.

People will most likely disagree with me, but I feel that targeting Bismack Biyombo at #9 would not be a mistake. If you start to watch film and listen to him do the interviews, his passion for this game seems very high. I think a guy who leaves home at 16 for basketball and ends up playing in the second best league in the world at age 18 says alot to his work ethic and commitment to the game of basketball. Basketball is his life and to me I dont think alot of the prospects in this draft quite have this level of passion.

When watching him I see a person who changes the game, not on the offensive end obviously but defensively this guy is a stud. I think sitting at 9 we should be looking at the prospect who has the best potential. To me I just dont see any of these SGs, SFs, or PF tweeners that are being mentioned as players with much potential. Most of these prospects just wont be starters and as fans you have to accept that. It kills me to see some of you trying to plug our draft picks into our starting lineup. We would be really lucky if this draft got us a starter.

I like Biyombo alot, he looks like he could be alot like his fellow countrymen who is becoming pretty good Serge Ibaka. I hope our FO takes a strong look at this guy because he is one of the few that could become a dominant force on the defensive end.

I'd rather take Honeycutt at 9 than those guys.

Regardless of how you feel about the Bismack Biyombo the player, you have to love Bismack Biyombo the name. Sounds WICKED.

UPDATE: According to ESPN.com's Chad Ford, Biyombo's stock is so up in the air that the NBA doesn't have him on the first 12 players that have already received invites to sit in the Green Room at the draft.

That is why he is willing to work out for more teams just prior to the draft next Thursday.

Bismack Biyombo struggled during a workout in Italy last weekend in front of a horde of NBA scouts and now comes word that he'll work out for more teams prior to the draft next week.

Ford interviewed Biyombo in Italy and was impressed with his intelligence.

Biyombo, who could be an elite defender in the NBA, is slated to be drafted by Golden State at No. 10 in Ford's recent mock draft.

Maybe at 19, but I can't see taking him at 9. Let's get one guy we know can contribute and then take a little more of a chance with 19.

I like him alot actually. I have watched a little bit of film of him lately and Im sorta impressed. He seems to be a Tyrus Thomas type on defense who knows how to slow it down if need be. He cant shoot or anything but he has a decent spin move in the post and really battle's down low which leads to buckets. He could put on some muscle weight, develop some hook shots and a little jumper and he could end up being one of the NBA's best centers.

I'm praying he drops to 19....but I wont be too mad if he goes 9. I would rather grab Leonard if he's there....I love Klay Thompson too.

He seems more PF sized then center sized. I like that he defends the rim, but he doesn't do anything else at an NBA level. A big guy with this skill set is almost guaranteed to be considered a bust his first couple of years ( see haseem tabeet ). I would much rather wait a few years and pick him up for pennies on the dollar. If he is around at 19 maybe but at 9, I would say no.

Not really. He is just smaller thus more agile and coordinated ut with his freakishly long arms he has similar maeasurement as Dwight Howard (not saying he is the same player). So he is big enough to play C, which I guerss is his natureal position (as he blocker and rebounder) although he could play PF paired with such center that it would make sense.

He is pretty safe pick if picked for what he does best. He won't do jumpshots or layups unless forced by shot clock or something so that workout was pretty pointless (still worrying though). He will just dunk the ball or draw a foul, crash the board for new possesions or putbacks and finished when passed into advanategous position. I wouldn't expect more than Kwame is as best case scenario offensively but he should more thank make up on deffensive end. And mentally he is very promising, matured, leader. We need more scroing than what he brings but for many teams he would make much more sense.
