Related to Tyrus...

I have a question concerning his contract. From what I remember he got a big "signing bonus"...which was paid during his first year BUT is divided per year in regards to our cap hit. Is that correct?

Basically what I'm wondering is if the actual overall money/cap hit is the same to another team as it is to us if we traded him. I'm sure it'd be used in figuring whether the trade would work (well, I think I'm sure), but if he's already received the money I wouldn't think he'd take up the same number on another team.

If that is right it would make him more of a desirable trade asset.

I'm still working on the above. I posted a question on the CBA forum of RGM so hopefully I'll get an answer. I'll probably throw it in Tam's salary thread so I won't be asking this same question again in 6 months.

Bad news...from what I'm getting Tyrus did NOT get a signing bonus.

Latest "evidence" is from the admin at Sham Sports. I sent him a link to this article:

And just like that, Tyrus Thomas gets a five-year, $40 million contract from the Bobcats, with a 17.5 percent bonus up front.
That means his first-year salary is $12 million, a chatty agent tells us.

Put it this way - if everything written in articles was true, there would be no need for people like me to exist. It may well be the case that Tyrus was expected at one point to get a signing bonus - however, I have no information that says that he did. And while it is entirely possible that I am wrong, if you trust in me when I tell you that I do not guess/speculate/calculate on such matters, and that I must surely get accurate info from somewhere, then you by proxy trust that this is unlikely.

I am sure that the article was not intentionally misleading, but what it claims to be true does not appear to be so. There have been a confusion on the part of the writer and/or editor, confusing signing bonus with performance bonuses (which he does have). Or maybe Michael Jordan changed his mind at the last moment and did away with the signing bonus, knowing that doing so would save him short term money. Either way, as far as can be established, Tyrus did not get one.

...so I guess in my mind Tyrus goes back to being a bad contract.
