Default Bonnell: Bobcats Exploring Trade Options Late Thursday

    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/201...g-in-flux.html

Some interesting nuggets in here, among them:

*Dante Cunningham isn't reporting to camp to sign his QO.
*Says we offered Dunleavy around 3M/yr but got slightly outbid by MIL, and if we would've got him, Cunningham would've been an afterthought (at least that is implied).
    *Still looking at Thronton
*FA options for Kwame have "dried up," increasing his chances of re-signing
    *No mention of Reggie Williams
*Biyombo's contract issues still unresolved and may remain that way through a hearing on his contract in Spain on the 19th.
*FO was exploring trade options late Thursday among other things
*We only have 10 guys under contract coming into camp.

I don't post here much... but I've got to say, as a die-hard Bobcats fan since the beginning, I am extremely disappointed with our Front Office. I thought Cho was supposed to be some sort of genius? What happened to the Chris Paul rumors? Fact is, he probably never even thought about coming here and just said that to placate his hometown fans.

    We trade Gerald for nothing.
We get rid of Jack for nothing.
We trade for guys that we are going to cut immediately for cap space, but then do nothing with that cap space.
    We let Raymond walk.

Unreal. I am so fed up, but at the same time, so anxious to see what we're going to do! I want to believe in MJ and Cho SO badly, but right now it is extremely difficult to stay positive.

I am hoping for maybe one FA splash this year, a high draft pick, and then some BIG $$ moves in the next offseason.

Cho didn't have a role in any of those moves.

The only move Cho has made since he's been in town is to flip the #19 pick for the #7 pick. Also, how can you get mad at the FO for Chris Paul wanting to go to Los Angeles? There's nothing the FO can do about him wanting a big market.

Cho had a part in the Gerald Wallace trade, but from the other side... right? (I could be wrong)

I'm not mad at the FO for Chris Paul not coming. We can't help our market... I am just frustrated. It just feels like we've done nothing but build up cap space for years, and we never make a move with it...all the while we lose good, quality players.

    Losing Crash still hurts...bad.

Yeah he was the guy people said "worked us over" for Crash in that trade, so I guess you could say that with that and the Bismack trade he's shown to be a good GM. Hopefully that's not an issue anymore.

We don't have capspace yet, and we haven't for a few years now. We topped out all of our space a few years ago for our Playoffs run and haven't worked our way out of it yet. We still have a year or so before we get to the point where we can use that space for some good. There's no denying that things look to be turning around for the good.

Also, we didn't let Felton walk. We supposedly offered him forty some million but he left to take less than half that from the Knicks. If you wish to hold a grudge against someone for him not being here you need to hold it against Ray, or perhaps his incompetent agent, not anyone with the Bobcats.

To my understanding, that was offered prior to the offseason and we weren't very active once the offseason started and he essentially chose to leave, mostly because he didn't want to play for Larry Brown anymore. Think I read that from someone on RGM last year...

Also said Tyson Chandler wanted out because of LB.

If you ask me, the LB hire was probably worse than any personnel move individually because it actually costed us more players in the log run (Felton, Chandler, etc.) who didn't want to play for him after that first season. So, because of LB, we essentially gave away at least two assets for nothing.

If we get Kwame, we should amnesty Diop. That will give us a little wiggle room.

We offered him a deal that offseason but then it (or any other) was never offered again. Remember the trade for Tyrus? Once they gave him that big deal it was all she wrote.

That offer BTW was LESS than his qualifying offer for the upcoming year.

Once he played out the QO year Felton's agent said that the Bobcats' FO wouldn't even talk to him. Felton had no choice but to go onto the open market.

We most definitely let Felton "walk" with no compensation whatsoever.

That's what I meant... He played out the last year and we never offered anything last offseason when he signed with NY.

I don't remember the timeline that well, but I knew we didn't give him anything in terms of an offer and he signed elsewhere. I shouldn't have said "chose to leave." You're right, he was forced to leave - for nothing. But, I still remember someone saying he was happy to b/c of LB as well, and this is my own opinion, but I'm sure he wasn't overly willing to try and work something out with us even if we had space because we pretty much botched his whole situation.

I didn't want to keep Felton as a core piece b/c I thought DJ was better, but I would've loved to re-sign him and trade him for picks or some young players that could help us re-build (although that wasn't an official direction of the franchise until the Crash trade).

I actually was going to make a thread the other day with the title simply "Tyson Chandler: How Did We Mismanage Him So Badly?"

May still need to make it because it's disgusting to think we got him, hardly used him, allowed Gerald to sh*t on him in the media, then traded him for nothing. NOTHING. He then goes onto become the defensive centerpiece for the champion Mavs and then signs a hefty contract with the Knicks... That just disgusts me...
