    Is this simply to get his rights, then trade him for something of value to a contender at the trade deadline?

    I read somewhere that players picked up via the amnesty bid couldn't be traded til July 1st.

    100% correct. And Arenas already cleared waivers. Imagine if he signs a 5 mil per deal? Orlando is going to be on the hook for a huge amount of money
