Default If DJA were to be resigned/extended....

What would be the most you would give him to stay?

Personally I can see DJ as a really good off the bench player that provides that scoring punch when Kemba has to rest. If he is asking for starter money, then I would say trade his ass for future prospects and picks.

$6 million per year is fair for DJ. Augustin is greater than Mike Conley

I was thinking around the 4 mil mark. 5 mil if he shows alot of progress as a player.

how about no. if we were in a contending position in need of solid backup pg and spot starter than 4 mil is justified. we aren't. he isn't worth the cap space to us for what he would bring.

get his value up by keeping him a starter and trade him for the best offer.

What would you plan on trading him for? Either it is 4 mil to him or 4 mil somewhere else, neither help the cap space. The only thing in return you are going to get is a backup player. Lateral moves wont help. By keeping him, our Pg position is set for awhile which lets us just focus on the other positions.

he is a backup player. and 4 mil for multiple years does not interest me at this point. i would trade him and matty c for a 7 mil expiring at this point. but, i think he should start this year until we can move him for hopefully a better deal. i just don't think we should extend him.

Say we do that. Shed 7 mil but what do we do with it? We are not getting that superstar player. They are already set on where they want to go. We keep our current assets for a reasonable price cuz its not till 2013 summer when we are going to be big ballers in the free agency.

Current assets + top pick in 2012 + top free agent in 2013 = title contenders for years to come.

I'm hearing the NBA may push back the trade deadline into ealry March. By then it is possible that a playoff contending team is in dire need of a PG due to injury or other reasons. Bobcats may be in a position of getting a pick for him in the back half of the 1st round, which in this upcoming loaded draft would be decent.

If we trade DJ i want a draft pick above 18. Even if we just get an expiring back i would see that as a success.
