    Default Thoughts on Stephen Silas

I missed the game and the front page post kind of got me thinking - how did you think Stephen Silas did last night? What kind of credit would you give him for the win?

The reason I was asking is because I was starting to figure he might not be a part of the future of the organization whenever his father departed. We had all heard the good praise for him when he first showed up and I know I would have been very happy with him taking over for his dad, but then this year, with the losses piling up (and questions of how much of the X and O stuff Paul actually does) it wouldn't be very far-fetched to think that an entirely new staff would take over eventually.

One game does not make a coach, but the win last night restored some hope in my mind that Stephen Silas might be a very good head coach for us in the future and I was just wondering if other people saw some promising signs there - good lineups, smart timeouts, defensive adjustments, timely motivation, stuff like that?

Stephen Silas was awesome last night. Up off the bench firing his guys up. Excellent rotations, good timeouts like you said. Loved his performance and think his enthusiasm helped get us that victory.

That said, its not a slight on Paul Silas. Paul Silas is our grim reaper. He is here to usher us into the death that is tanking. And he's daaaamn good too. The major difference in last night from any of the other 30 terrible performances was basically effort.

But I think the Silas's know basketball. And I think Stephen may be the best type of candidate for a young rebuilding team, starting next year. He's young, knows his X's and O's, relates well to the players, and from all accounts has their utmost respect. And he would be continuing the Silas in Charlotte tradition. What else can we ask for?

We were down 20 points early in the 2nd quarter when Silas got kicked. After that we actually came to life and eventually took the lead. Pretty sure Stephen was diagramming the plays before and after, so IMO you have to look at the effort of the players for the sudden turnaround.

Kind of interesting that this happened considering Silas' forte has always been about motivation. Why couldn't they get these guys "up" like that in all those previous 30 pt losses?

I'm pretty down on them both. I wouldn't be opposed to giving him a tryout going into next season (cuz we'll still stink) but I wouldn't proclaim him anything beyond that.

Yea his rotations were really good. He had the perfect lineups on the floor at the right times. Like keeping Kemba in.

I don't know if it was Paul's move or Stephen's move..but I think having mullens/najera in with Biz helped keep Anderson off the three point line. IMO that was huge because Anderson provides such matchup problems.

he's a faw better play caller than his father ever was or will be. All i've heard about him is good especially from some quotes about how cut up the GSW team was after he left. I think one of the conditions about him coming to Charlotte was that he'd get "looked after" when his Dad left. Most people on this forum have been bashing Paul's lineups and rotations but Stephen had great lineups and rotations, really excited about having him here as part of Charlottes future and I sure as hell hope Nate Mcmillan don't get the job.

Haven't they been one and the same? During the timeouts I'm pretty sure Stephen has always drawn up the plays.

It's not like Stephen was drawing up magically plays during timeouts that the Bobcats haven't seen before. Unless it is a end of a game situation, there's only a few plays any NBA team runs. The clipboard is pretty useless since the players know what to do. You can't really judge his impact on a little more than a half of a game. Other than lineups, I don't think a NBA coach has that much impact during the game like many want to believe. What they do in practice and managing the players is where they earn their money.

This isnt the first time silas has been ejected last time he was ejected we lost still, i think it has little coaching effect its more of the energy the team is willing to give and confidence, the team was obviously feeling it last night, atleast thats how i saw it, henderson was finally making shots and maggette was finally getting aggressive and making shots, thats basically all you need to win. And i rather not keep being cheap and give current staff promotions/chances at the coaching positions, rather the FO go out and get a proven one
