I think this guy took to much of the blame in NY despite being a very good head coach. He plays a style that is exciting. The fans like it and the players like it. I don't remember how much Silas has left on his contract but I think we should consider making a change at the end of the season.

BB at the center is ideal for a running team. We might be able to get something better out of Thomas. There is a possibility we could resign Diaw and we know he can produce under Datoni. Who knows we might even be able to get Nash to come on board.

Eh, that's a stretch. First of all, like it or not, it looks like Stephen Silas is going to get a go at head coach next year. Secondly, we really don't have the pieces to run his offense. If we got Nash on board, it would be worth it, but that's incredibly unlikely.

As long as we're making "what-if" threads, what do you guys think about Oden? Sure there's a good chance his career is over, but if we could sign him for cheap, with an incentive laden contract that rewarded him for games played, he could be an interesting player to have in our back pocket going forward. Even if he was only healthy enough to play 12-16 minutes a game, he would be worth a cheap deal.

Not gonna happen, but an interesting thought.

P.S. I think Nate McMillan is more likely than D'Antoni.

I loved watching D'Antoni's system run to near perfection in Phoenix. If not for a couple bad breaks (Joe Johnson's face, Stoudemire's knees and eyes, Horry's hip check), they very well may have won a title, or at least got to the finals. However, his offense is almost gimmicky, as you need to have the right kind of players for it to work.

They were building that team in New York, and I loved watching that team with Felton, Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Landry Fields, Amare, etc. They were turning the corner and I feel could have built a legitimate contender if not for their retarded owner's obsession with Carmelo. I feel bad for D'Antoni because he signed on for the original team, and the current one turned into the exact opposite kind of team, with very ill-fitting players who didn't buy into his scheme.

But no, it couldn't work here, as you need good shooters to score enough to make up for his system's complete lack of defense.

There is a possibility we could resign Diaw and we know he can produce under Datoni.

I don't think this young team needs any kind of system guy to come in here. I think we need a coach who understands what we have and wants to build to our current strengths rather than try and shoe horn our roster into some played out system.
I also believe we have a good front office in charge with a plan, we don't need a huge ego coach to come in and start demanding different things that may get us off track. Thats why I think Stephen Silas is as good a candidate as anyone.
Young, can grow and relate with our current team. And he will bring a fresh blood to the coaching pool rather than just repeating something thats already been seen and done.

See I'm pretty much the exact opposite (wanting a system)...but I don't know that Pringles or Nate run the system I ultimately want.

Its not that I dont want a system. Not at all, I want a system. I just don't want one that hasn't worked in 6 years and neither D'antoni or McMillan has proven anything in that time period. I want a system and I'd personally rather see it focused on offense rather than defense because thats just more fun to watch to me. But as long as we're winning I don't care if we win 2-0 with an awesome defensive scheme. I just think a new coach would bring a new unseen system, and cater it to our young building team.

If we're building like OKC, who knew Scott Brooks when he was hired? He struggled with them and then grew them into the contender they are now. I assume he was a respected assistant somewhere, then he got his shot. Sounds like a Stephen Silas story to me, and I for one would love it. He is young and energetic, and that's what you want with a young rebuilding team, not some old retread. Would love if Paul stayed on as an assistant too, or maybe a consultant like someone mentioned before.

Anywho, I don't think D'Antoni would come here and I wouldn't be upset if Nate ended up here, but for the most part I'm with cltblkhscoach. I like the idea of a young, energetic, "new-blood" type of coach to grow with the team. All great coaches start somewhere, perhaps Stephen Silas will be one...what's wrong with giving him the shot?
