If I were Paul Silas, I would make them play this as my theme music whenever I was announced at games.

Stop with all the "ship him out" talk. IF you want to ship out all the people on our roster who haven't played to what they could every night, we basically are cutting the whole team except Bismack. Nobody had given consistent effort. Tyrus's injury has really affected him. I had a feeling this year was going to be a down one for him. Due to the constant flashes of what he once was, I am confident he will get back on track for next year. If he doesn't then maybe we should explore other options.
I really like that Paul doesn't take that crap though. He is guilty of it too by letting his son coach. That wouldnt happen unless he knew the season was lost. But between this and the Boris conflict, at least the young guys will know that they still are being held to a standard. Our season is a disaster. We might be the worst team in NBA history when it is all said and done. But Paul's coaching this year will at least (hopefully) keep the mindset of the guys optimistic enough that we can have a resurgence in 1-2 years.
what wasn't reported was that matt carroll was pissing all over himself in the corner of his locker when he saw how angry silas got at tyrus's perceived lack of earning his salary.
hey guys, at least we didn't give up a future #1 for him and sign him to ridiculous (at the time and now preposterous) contract. oh wait...
Wonder who told Woj?
I'm going against the grain with most on this one...Silas was in the wrong IMO.
First off, Tyrus has been a HUGE disappointment to say the very least. However...these last few games especially (and I'm pretty sure including that Celtics' game) he's been a dynamo coming off the bench defensively. He's still part (mostly) knucklehead, but compare that to some of the players who have obviously checked out a few games back.
This season has been a nightmare for us and I can't imagine what the players have had to go thru personally. All these articles that are coming out (Are Bobcats worst team ever blah blah blah)? I'm numb to them now...don't even make me mad. It doesn't take long to realize that even if you have a plan you believe in you still suck this damn bad right now. If I stayed as pissed off throughout as I was at the beginning of this fiasco I'd have already had a stroke.
These guys aren't in any kind of race and they shouldn't be expected to stay in playoff mode...especially now. Tyrus came in and made a difference with his energy and Silas wants to pick on him of all people for talking to the opposing players in a not unfriendly way?
It's also none of Silas' business what Tyrus gets paid. Go bitch at Jordan...the guy who gave him the stupid contract.
Very unprofessional IMO and I don't see why Tyrus was even fined as he did nothing wrong. How long would most take an ass chewing in front of everyone before you start defending yourself? He "snapped" back, stood up and then Silas shoved him towards his locker?
Sorry for the long one.
Hope Resurrected: "I think I can bring an attitude to a team as far as, ‘All right, no matter what, we are not losing this game'." - Kemba Walker
"Its okay to be bad; just so long as you're bad ass." - Keetch
Love it! Paul got shanghaied by MJ and has had to suffer all year because of it, and lord knows Tyrus has had something like this coming to him since he was re-signed, so I'm glad Paul got to take out his frustrations on Tyrus. Catharsis is a good thing.
Definitely agree with Musatchio....don't reward Tyrus by amnestying him.
"The Charlotte Hornets name has been a mainstay throughout the region for many years, and we are excited to announce our intention to re-establish this historic brand. We believe that its return will galvanize our fan base by unifying our loyal Bobcats fans with those who have strong memories of our city's NBA predecessor." MJ, 5-21-13
The thing about amnestying Tyrus is that some team will sign him for at least 2 million or so ( maybe more) so that great reduces our financial commitment for someone that won't help if we keep him.
I would rather erase him entirely from our salary cap and owe him 4 million per over the next 3 seasons vs. Have him eat up our salary cap space and owe him 6 million per while making a minimal impact on the floor and is a distraction in the locker room.
Felton has been just as much of a disaster in Portland. And he would've had a longer deal with more cash here.
Agreed. Paul is supposed to be a leader and elder statesmen, not someone who beats the shit out of his players. That's bush league. More on that in the reply to spectre.
$10 says Tyrus or someone in his camp. What better way to excuse a poor season than to show that your coach is trying to hurt you?
Is it still against the grain if I agree with you?I'm going against the grain with most on this one...Silas was in the wrong IMO.
This. He may be stupid, he may not understand what Paul wants him to do, and he may be a liabilty to the team, but when he hits the hardwood, he plays HARD. The whole time. That's a pro and a con, but Paul preaches effort and fast break and all that, yet the one guy who does that all the time, he hardly plays and then tries to fight.First off, Tyrus has been a HUGE disappointment to say the very least. However...these last few games especially (and I'm pretty sure including that Celtics' game) he's been a dynamo coming off the bench defensively. He's still part (mostly) knucklehead, but compare that to some of the players who have obviously checked out a few games back.
Mmhmm. It's not like Tyrus was handing them the ball and saying "here, friends, please score on me!" like Byron and DJ White do. And Tyrus is the type of personality that doesn't respond well at all to what Paul did. He needs to be talked to like an adult, not a 5-year-old. Thank God Stephen understood that and played him 20 minutes against NoLa.These guys aren't in any kind of race and they shouldn't be expected to stay in playoff mode...especially now. Tyrus came in and made a difference with his energy and Silas wants to pick on him of all people for talking to the opposing players in a not unfriendly way?
No, I think Tyrus was fined for not getting out of the room when Silas told him to. But more because you can't fine just Silas, that takes away all his power. And while he was wrong on this one, as long as he's Head Coach, he has to be able to exercise control of the team.Very unprofessional IMO and I don't see why Tyrus was even fined as he did nothing wrong. How long would most take an ass chewing in front of everyone before you start defending yourself? He "snapped" back, stood up and then Silas shoved him towards his locker?
For the record, Tyrus has been horrid this year in all aspects of his game. I shudder when I see him try a jumper or dribble or back his man down. But you can't make him better by beating him to the ground, you have to treat him like the sensitive guy he is and fix it that way. Paul doesn't get that there is talent to be mined, not just a waste.
The way you put it, I'd almost agree. I don't like Tyrus, but I do think he's had plenty of opportunities to quit on the team(cept that huge contract), yet everytime he gets in the game he goes hard. But I guess I'm just old school. What ever the coach says, goes. And its hard to get mad at a coach (no matter how poorly he acted) when he is trying to get his players to play harder, earn their contract, and take this job seriously. and clearly Tyrus isn't doing 2 of those things.
Also we don't see what goes on behind the scenes... Tyrus doesn't appear to be getting a lot of work in the gym cause he's still stick skinny and his game isn't getting any better. Maybe Paul sees more than this little laugher with the Celtics and had had enough. like you aren't getting any better, you get paid a massive amount and you aren't contributing... and then you go laugh it up with the enemy?
and Teej mentioned that Tyrus is a sensitive player and needs to be taught that way. That may be true... but Tyrus has 9 million reasons a year to get over his sensitivities. This is a mans game... time to start acting like one.
