I was never around NC when the Hornets were here. The only team I have seen play and enjoy is the Bobcats. I know it sounds strange, but I like the name and the team. I can understand why some of the older fans of the old team want that name back, but none of the history comes with it unless the New Orleans Hornets completely give up the full rights.

Guys I support the idea, and think it will raise awareness. But please don't cheer for the Hornets at the game. That name will soon be available... but right now its a franchise in New Orleans. Wear your old Charlotte Hornets gear, but cheer for the Charlotte Bobcats.

I personally think a big splash or purple and teal will get the message across loud and clear. I was at the last game you guys did this, and it just didn't feel right to hear them chanting the Hornets name. I know the movement loves the current Bobcats team, but it came off as cheering against them almost. Like you were there protesting the Bobcats ya know. Just my 2 cents on that.

I will wear my Bobcats gear and cheer for the Bobcats, but I will also high five a bunch of you in support.

Nicely put and it doesn't sound strange at all. I have no problem with the Bobcats name at all. It is totally a preference issue and no one should be lambasted for their opinion on it or fanhood questioned. And you are also correct that the records wont come with the name as they belong to that other franchise.

But those memories of Zo hitting the shot against the Celtics and countless good times like standing ovations after 30 point losses, and parades after a 10 win season don't belong to anyone but Charlotte, regardless of what the current team is called. That was our cities basketball team and it was awesome. For me getting the name back doesn't have anything to do with hating the Bobcats name/logo/colors. It has to do with living up to the city nickname and fighting for something we want to keep.

I understand the point you guys are trying to make, but as long as we are the Bobcats, there is simply no earthly way that I could walk into Bobcats arena wearing Hornets gear

    Can't do it.

I'm in the boat with Mustachio, I've never been completely against the movement, but it's really upset me how you guys have attempted to degraded the Bobcats name. Stop censoring the Bobcats name; Bob Johnson is gone. Don't chant, "Let's go Hornets" at the game, its disrespectful. Wearing you're Hornets gear sends the same message. And stop posting pictures of celebrities wearing Hornets snapbacks. They care as little about the Hornets as the hipsters at my school who wear them.

I'm on board with what will help the future of the franchise, and I believe a name change could possibly do that, but in the chance the organization doesn't change the name, I don't want the name slandered anymore than it already is.

I appreciate that you guys are trying to bring excitement to the team, particularly this season, but there's a right way of doing it.

I'll echo what Mustachio, Ziggy, and ND22 are saying.

I don't have a problem with wanting the name back. Whatever. I don't have a problem with talking to the media, making t shirts, or coming up with corny catchphrases. Whatever.

But going to a Bobcats game and cheering for the Hornets is wrong. Go to the game, cheer your hearts out for the Bobcats, and hope for a rare win. I understand your intentions are good, but I think its a bad move.

John, I think you're one of the leaders right? I might suggest gathering outside before the game and try to "raise awareness" for the movement. Pass out cards, flyers, or a petition. But once you walk into the arena, it should be go Bobcats. The players on the court are Bobcats (at least as of now) and are going through an absolutely miserable year and deserve to hear a rowdy crowd screaming on their behalf. It might raise their spirits and give them something to play all out for.

It would also be a great way of saying, "Hey MJ, see how loud we got for the Bobcats? Change the name and you'll get that at every game for the Hornets."

As they say: Lead by Example.

I don't hate the New Orleans Hornets; I just think they have an awkward brand, (solely due to the marketing strength of the Charlotte brand) which fortunately will be remedied soon.

As for Zo; all my memories were washed out by him turning his back on us and walking away. That was the beginning of the end for the Charlotte Hornets.

...and I agree with the argument against cheering for the Hornets while we're still the Bobcats.

We did cheer for the B**Cats! At the last game, we were by far the loudest group in the arena...the only solid block of people cheering, and we cheered for our team and our team only. We haven't nor would we ever advocate doing anything other than this. Yeah, there was a lot of "Char-lotte Hornets" at various times, but it wasn't in a belligerent fashion; people were just 'making their voices heard', literally. We were the rowdy crowd of which you speak; when we jumped out to an early 11 point lead, our whole section was going nuts. And even as the game slipped away, not a soul left their seats until the final buzzer.

I had my doubts about the chants going into the last game, honestly. Even if I didn't, I certainly can't control what an entire group of a couple hundred people decide to do (spontaneously, I might add. The only thing I posted regarding fan behavior the night before the game had to do with being respectful of the team and other fans). But the fact is, a lot of the awareness we've raised in the time since is the direct result of the impact we made that night. For one game, even in defeat, it was fun to be a Charlotte basketball fan again. We weren't picking fights or being disrespectful, just cheering like mad for our hometown team whilst simultaneously trying to make our point as thoroughly as possible

FYI- For those complaining about wearing Charlotte Hornet gear to a Bobcats game.... The Bobcats team store website has a Charlotte Hornets Snap Back hat for sale. It's kind of hard to complain about what we are doing, when the Bobcats themselves are promoting it.

    Just saying
