    Default Jabari Parker=weird!

    http://keepingscore.blogs.time.com/2...ext-superstar/

So he might be the number 1 pick. He seems as shy as anything, he is a mormon, he models himself on BRIAN SCALABRINE!!! I am not saying any of this is bad, it's actually quite refreshing not to have an ego maniac. But I still find it strange...

He may not be egomaniacal, but he sure is maniacal.

He is 17 years old. You are weird for calling him weird.

I swear this media over sensationalizing of high school talent that has been taken to new heights in the past 10 years is disgusting. Everyone wants to have a moment where they discover a Lebron or a OJ Mayo or a Brandon Jennings. At the same time, a large group of NBA owners are advocating for raising the age limit and requiring two years out of high school before turning pro. What this will lead to is the build up and destruction of a lot of kids by the media. They will be given labels, egos, and titles before they deserve it, then it will be taken away if they fail to live up to it. All the while their image will be used to sell magazines and jerseys and they won't see a cent of it. Stuff like this really pisses me off. Not anyone in this thread, but just the media/people who feed into it in general. Leave the guy alone!

I like him. I like his mindset and what he stands for. Based on that, reminds me of a Kevin Durant type of guy. Very humble, down to earth type of player. Doesn't need the spotlight just to shine. We need more guys like him in the NBA in general.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/weird Definition of Weird: a strikingly odd or unusual character; strange.

I am not weird for calling him weird, just look at the definition. He is an unusual character and unlike many high school stars before him, the fact that he models himself after Brian Scalabrine is weird. I am not saying it's a bad thing! It is just a totally new approach to the game which unfortunately I dont think will do him any good. He doesnt appear to have a drive to be the best. Like he said he is just going to happy to be in the NBA, this type of attitude will put teams off I imagine. Of course he is only 16 so that can all change, but does he ever strike you as being a leader type player? No he strikes me as being quite quiet and shy a bit like Joe Johnson

You obviously only read a sentence of what I wrote and misunderstood me. I'm not going to call you any more names (although I am very tempted to right now) but I know what the word "weird" means. Putting the dictionary definition up is both cute and insulting. What I meant (and summarized my point to be) is the fact we are discussing a 17 year old is a weird concept and we should just leave him alone. The fact entire magazines and online publications revolve around high schoolers is weird. Everyone likes to talk about how "kids" these days are 'one and done' and how wrong that is. Well the media starts treating them like adults and they pay a whole group of adults salaries, two things which I think are more inherently wrong than '1 and done'. This guy has already decided as soon as he gets top 5 pick momentum he is leaving! He already feels entitled to millions of dollars that he might not ever see depending on how his college career goes. I am really uncomfortable by the fact a 17 year old is being put under a microscope. This analysis and marketing of high schoolers are by far the weirdest things about the thread. Not you and not me.

Okay i see where your coming from. Unfortunately if your as good as Jabari is your going to get that press and all the pressure that comes with it. You may not like it, I may not like it but its the cold hard truth. It won't ever change, globalization is not going to suddenly rewind, no high school player that good is ever going to just be left to himself like msot kids. If anything it is going to get worse and worse. Everyone is looking for the next big thing to report on and get the scoop and find that kid who goes on to become MVP. However, I am not going to feel to sorry for him as he is msot likely to get paid millions of dollars in the future for getting to play a game he loves.
