I am curious why there's such an interest in the 4 here? I am working under the assumption that we want both Biz and Mully to play the 4 and not have them at the 5. In that case, if everyone i's amenable to it, why wouldn't we try reach back out to Kwame? He seemed to really enjoy his time here and I thought he worked his ass off.

And if we are in the mood for 4, I'd love to have Jamison come here to wind up his career. I assume he'll be taking a pay cut no matter where he (re)signs and he seems like a high quality guy.

I presume w/ a 4.4m QA for DJA, he's going to get a better offer sheet and is out of here. In that case, I wish we'd pick up an (non-cost prohibitive) pass-first PG out of free agency and let Kemba know he's the #1 option from day one this year. Give him a full year sans pressure from the bench to see what he can be. I like the kid's drive - I want to see him succeed. If we could bring in a guy like Ish Smith (who we looked at in undrafted FA in 2010 - he's impressed everywhere he's gone, just always been behind a bigger pair of investments) in as a backup and you keep the high-character/hard-worker guy thing rolling. I assume Higgins is not going to be retained ....

I'd love Hickson here and if he's available, I'd hope we make an attempt to bring him aboard. No to Mayo and Beasley, though if we hadn't gotten MKG and did draft Robinson, I would've been happy with Beasley more.... though he is not the character that Cho/Higgins/Dunlap would be happy with, IMO.

I agree that Kemba needs to be the starter from day one and really hope that the QO for DJ was just to get something in return if someone offers $$ for him. It was a "meh" pick since draft night, and he is yet to put it together. I love DJ for who he is and wanted him to succeed, but I'm ready for the DJA experiment to be over with and start fresh under our new blueprint with Kemba as the surefire starter and not have him look over his shoulder at DJ. Grab a vet PG to spell Walker and bring in Machado to see if he is good enough to be a back-up PG or if he's just a rotational 3rd PG kind of player.

I think Cho is smart enough to stay far away from Beasley. Same with Mayo. Hickson would make sense and be a nice addition.

Toronto wants Nash and gets rid of Calderon. They are thinking in the amnesty.

    So my propose:

    Calderon for Diop.

Both are expirings. Similar contracts (Calde 10M, Diop 7M). Calde could be very productive for us. A perfect mentor for Kemba

There are some UFA I think would help us. George Hill is a free agent from Indiana I like for a back up pg. Hickson could play the 4 and 5 and will be productive. Seeing that GSW drafted Barnes, Dorell Wright could come in and be our vet sf. Believe it or not TT will probably have a good yr in an uptempo style.

Based on that, 3.5M??...Hickson was very productive with the Blazers last year in Aldridge's absence, LaMarcus has refused to play Center and they figure they can get another PF for less.
I hope we pursue Hickson and get this done. $3.5M seems reasonable to me and I think he would be a great fit with us. He's still young at 23 and can grow along with our young guys. He has good size, he can score in the post and rebound. He has shown he can produce when given playing time. I think he would be a very solid piece to help build this team with long term. We're paying Diop and Tyrus $7M. Ovbviously those contracts are from another time/CBA agreement and were ridiculous even then. But I'm sure we will get a much larger return on the investment with Hickson.

    Default ryan anderson

RFA PF; very good 3-point shooter, and can rebound and run. Still young...

Blazers may be afraid of losing Batum in RFA, so won't get too crazy with their $$$. Hickson is a very decent player.
On the RFA front, I really like PF Ryan Anderson. 3-point shooting machine, and can rebound and run the floor. Gonna be pricey though...

Default Idea: The Bobcats as the Third Team in a Trade

This isn't based on news really, just a thread for ideas. I'm no expert on three or four team trades, but with news that Howard is asking to be traded to Brooklyn, and that Brooklyn is also interested in acquiring Joe Johnson, do we have anything to gain by getting involved?

The Nets simply don't have the assets to acquire both of these players on their own, but if all parties are interested in making these moves, then they will find a way.

What are our expiring contracts and draft picks worth to help get this done? If Atlanta wants to blow it up and rebuild, which seems to be the case, would picks and expiring deals be enough to land Al Horford or Josh Smith? Probably not, but it depends purely on how desperately Atlanta, Orlando, and Brooklyn are to get these deals done.

Purely a thread to explore possibilities and think out loud in a sense.

    Additional random thoughts:

-We have the cap room and picks that could help facilitate a trade without losing any players of value.
-There is a very good chance the picks we are owed from Detroit and Portland are worth more now than they will be when they are actually received.
-Howard is pushing this, and there's a good chance Orlando wants to put an end to the drama as soon as possible so they can begin their inevitable rebuilding process.
-Danny Ferry may want to build his team in Atlanta, which could mean starting over.
-New Jersey, er, Brooklyn would be the team that would get the best of the deal, as well as the worst. Meaning they would be getting Howard, Johnson, and likely be able to keep Williams in doing so, but they would also be giving up picks, cash, and take on as many bad contracts as possible in order to get their men. (Fingers crossed that Tyrus is sent off if we ever gain leverage in the deal)
