I am not an insider so cannot read that article... but whatever it says he does not have a high ceiling, it was a surprise he even got drafted. If he did why would he have got waived?

    Here is what they said:

Interestingly enough, Harrellson finds himself in a position similar to what Lin experienced last season for the Houston Rockets. Although Harrellson has proved he can play at an NBA level, the Rockets simply feature too many bodies ahead of him on the depth chart, and like Lin, Harrellson was the odd man out. There's a legitimate chance that the Rockets may be kicking themselves for this cut, as well.

"Jorts" can play. But who will he play for? In a copycat league that just watched the small-ball and floor-spacing Miami Heat win the title, there should be a market for Harrellson's services. After all, 6-foot-10 big men who can shoot 3s and grab boards don't grow on trees. Among players who played 500 minutes last season, only Harrellson, Kevin Love and Ersan Ilyasova averaged at least nine rebounds and a 3-pointer every 36 minutes. Not bad company.

Good company... but that stat means NOTHING. If that meant anything why did Houston cut him?

Nothing? Really? Not even a little bit? Not even that he got more than 9 rebounds and a three made per 36 minutes on the floor? Not even that?

Not when he averaged just under 15 minutes per game

When you back up Amare Stoudemire I guess you dont get 30+ minutes a game.

Or more like, when you're not that good I guess you dont get 30+ minutes.

    James Harden got 31 minutes
    Andre Miller got 27 minutes
    Al Harrington got 27 minutes
    JR Smith got 28 minutes
    Jamal Crawford got 27 minutes
    OJ Mayo got 27
    Thad Young got 28

    etc.

Usually, when you're good, you get minutes. Hell, Harrellson got less minutes than Steve Novak on the same team.

Using per36 is silly when your sample size (14.6 minutes) is so small. You look for higher mpg guys like the ones listed above because that's a more reliable extrapolation.

Corey Higgins was a 13/3/3 player if we're going by per36
Dexter Pittman was good for 13/9/1 if we're going by per36
    Cole Aldrich? 12/10/2 per36

You have to understand Harrelson will have got playing garbage time and been playing against reserves (like cory higgins). That's why his limited time

    James Harden got 31 minutes = $5,800,000
    Andre Miller got 27 minutes = $5,000,000
    Al Harrington got 27 minutes = $6,600,000
    JR Smith got 28 minutes = $2,800,000
    Jamal Crawford got 27 minutes = $5,000,000
    OJ Mayo got 27 = $4,020,000
    Thad Young got 28 = $8,000,000
Harrellson = $473,604 Also he was a rookie

I don't think it is fair to compare to the names you threw out there.

I think it's certainly fair if we're debating whether or not he's "the next breakout player" or not. The only point I'm trying to make is that it's silly to try and use per36 on 14 minutes to try and say he'd give you X stats. Just look at the 3 examples I listed at the bottom of my last post.

-Greg Stiemsma was also a rookie, also played right at 14 minutes. His per36 averages were 8/8/4. Are we really going to assume he'd lead the league in blocks (Ibaka averaged 3.7) if he got starter's minutes?

-Omer Asik, 2nd year player, right at 14 minutes, per36 says 13 rebounds. That's good for 3rd in the entire league if given starter's minutes.

See what I mean? It just doesn't work like that. Now, could he be serviceable? Sure, I guess so. But he didn't show anything in the time he got that told me (or the Knicks/Rockets) that he could be anything close to a breakout candidate
