The bit about his players hating him was a bit worrying, it sounds just a bit like Larry Brown all over again. Sure they respect him now but...After a while of being under Dunlap's reign do you think people will grow annoyed at him? I could see that happening

I think it just depends. All of the guys we want on our roster know that you have to work hard and be dedicated to be good. My guess is that guys like Hendo, MKG, and Kemba love having a coach like that as long as they know the coach supports them and is making them better.

For comparison, it sounded like Brown just tore guys down rather than building them up, at least in his tenure here. Combine with lack of success in the early season and Brown saying he didn't think we had a lot of talent, and the team gave up on him.

If you've got warriors who want to succeed and they believe they're being led to the right place, they'll do pretty intense work to get there. I'm not worried about it. In fact, given our young talent, I think he's perfect.

I had the worry that Dunlap might get burned out because of his intensity, but a guy that coaches this long and goes anywhere to do it truly loves it. The fact that he builds up the players after tearing them down speaks well, and I'm betting that's something he didn't have initially as a coach. The key is, to me, how well he can motivate when we have a 4 or 5 game losing streak and he keeps trying to play this intense style with 3 games in 4 nights and guys tired as hell.

Those are things I hoped he picked up in Denver from George Karl. Those are going to be the learning curve points he has to pickup. The fact that one of his former players called him 'outside the box' has me believing that we're going to run that press and trap style a lot more than most teams ever have.

What's important is the Dunlap has great attention to detail, appears to be an EXCELLENT communicator (things like saying "eyes UP" to guys he's talking to; he wants actual eye contact with them), then explaining WHY he wants things a certain way, and that he is there to HELP them be a better player. Anyone who really WANTS to excel should LOVE this guy!

I agree with what everyone's been saying here. With Larry, he was a strict disciplinarian who has a severe communication problem along with a Napoleon complex. He would be hard on players, but would never explain himself. He expected the players to get it, otherwise they'd be buried on the bench or traded. And then he'd throw them under the bus in order to "motivate" them.

From the articles I've read on Dunlap, yeah he also can be tough on his players, but they always seemed to know the reasons for it and where they stood. Dunlap was quoted in another article as saying he's not as concerned with what players do so much as long as they can explain why they did it. And so in turn he would be the same way in explaining why he does things to or for the players.

Communication is one of the biggest characteristics that both Dunlap and all his colleagues and players have pointed out. We should have no worries of a Larry Brown redux.
