    Default Ben Gordon Scenario

If this has already been mentioned on this Forum then feel free to delete this comment. However, when I look at the Charlotte Bobcats trade of Ben Gordon for Corey Maggette I believe it was an EXCELLENT trade because there are various scenarios that would greatly benefit the Bobcats.

    1) Ben Gordon will be a veteran leader for a young group of guards and wing players. He will play this season and find his previous form that lead to him being one of the best 6th men in the NBA. Gordon will decide he wants to take advantage of his excellent season and will not excercise his player option on the final season in order to pursue a long term deal elsewhere (with a contender) which will clear $13.2 million more in cap space for the Cats entering 2013 Free Agency. If you combined that move with using the amnesty clause on Tyrus Thomas the Cats would have $41.2 million in cap space available which would be amazing.

    2) Ben Gordon will be a veteran leader for a young group of guards and wing players. He will play this season and find his previous form that lead to him being one of the best 6th men in the NBA. The Bobcats will take advantage of Gordon's season and trade him to a team that is looking to add that missing piece of the bench in exchange for a 1st Round Pick. Once again, if you combined that move with using the amnesty clause on Tyrus Thomas the Cats would have $41.2 million in cap space available which would be amazing.

    3) Ben Gordon will be a veteran leader and prove will give this team much added scoring punch coming off the bench for the next two seasons. He will mentor young guards and wing players and greatly help them improve their games over the next two seasons. His work ethic and professionalism will teach our young players how to prepare for grueling NBA seasons.

    4) Ben Gordon could have a decent season, a bad season, he could be injured, or various other things could happen.

Basically, I believe that there is so much good that can come out of acquiring Ben Gordon. I believe that the good certainly outweighs the bad. In my mind he is definitely much more of an asset than Corey Maggette ever was and that is why Cho made this deal.

I don't disagree with anything you listed, this is an opportunity for Ben Gordon to bounce back and make a name for himself; however, this trade had everything to do with the getting the first round draft pick (coming at the cost of taking on 1 extra year of a $10M+/year player in exchange for a different $10M+/year player).

I would agree that getting a first was a priority in any deal moving magette's expiring. But in this particular deal, gordon's ability to shoot the 3 was definitely a factor. He's a guy i think dunlap liked because i'm sure we could have targeted a big instead of coming to detroit with this had we wanted to.

This ground has been covered, but this might be a good place to restart Ben Gordon conversation.

Suffice to say, I agree with the first post AND that it was mostly about getting the 1st.

It is for the first round pick, but if he opens up the lane for mkg with his 3 then it's a good trade.

It was for sure about the 1st rounder, but Gordon is an added bonus because he provides a major scoring boost to the bench and has the ability to close out games from beyond the arc. He fits really well into Dunlap's scheme (remember how active he was in the Bulls defense in those playoff series?) as a ball-pressurer and I think he's smart enough to rotate well. And he'll space the floor better than anyone on the roster the last few years (ever, really).

I believe Gordon will help our shooting woes and 3pt percentage this season, but I believe when it's all said and done, Cho's trading isn't done. I can see Cho moving Gordon at next year's deadline or on draft night for another 1st or something comparable in a young player. I'm stoked to see Gordon on the court this year off the bench, but I don't think Cho is completely done with the net gain on Corey Maggette.

not that it is a big deal, but ben gordon has not yet reported to the bobcats organization. is not happy about landing in the shittiest airport in the nba. i am sure at the end of the day he will be a pro and show up to collect his check. if i were running the team, i would promise to deal him if he can play himself into a semi-decent asset.

What do you mean has not yet reported to the bobcats organization? just because he's not working out in Charlotte doesn't mean he doesn't want to be here. I would guess MJ would explain to him, "the reason you are here is you have a shitty contract that you aren't earning yet-we'll give you the opportunity to try to change that perception if you are a good mentor to the young guys and listen to the coach"

Gordon will be utilized by Dunlap, but his minutes will have to be earned, not given to him just because he's a high paid player.

Observer Article of Ben Gordon at TWC Arena on June 29th

“It’s definitely a different feeling. But I’m looking to have a very positive impact – change whatever was in the past,’’ Gordon said at an introductory news conference. “I’m not even thinking about what happened in the past (in Charlotte). Just thinking about what happens in the future.’’
“I have a lot of years of experience I can share with these guys. One thing I can show them is always maintaining a good work ethic,’’ Gordon said. “I’ve always prided myself in getting in the gym and working on my game – perfecting my craft.’’
