i agree with everything said about the movie. But you guys aren't keeping with what Nolan was trying to say/do. The whole story with all 3 movies is Bruce not wanting to be Batman forever. He constantly looks for a way out with hopes of eliminating the big threats and leaving the petty ones to Gordon and the GCPD. Now Nolan stays true to the Comic Book form of things but still takes the path in a different direction.
With the Robin and Talia thing, I understand. Robin takes over as Batman seeing how he's motivated enough and young enough, and the Talia thing falls into the cliche' of third movies. Being: Something from the past comes back to bite you in the ass. Bane wasn't a 9ft monster with venom running through his veins, Scarecrow wasn't shooting everyone up with fear gas, Two Face never talked to himself, and the Joker didn't walk around with cheap puns and guns shooting "Bang" signs.
It stays true to the source material but still finds a way to branch off into Nolan's interpretation. If any movie goes straight from the source material then it's nothing new for us comic book geeks. We already read the story. With interpretations like Nolan's, everyone can enjoy the movie. Not that any of your theories were incorrect, just pointing out the potential reason for Nolan doing what he did to the characters.
Maybe it's because I studied up on Dark Knight for the Bobcats Planet Comic or the fact that I spend most of my free time playing Arkham Asylum and Arkham City and watching a handful of animated series episodes that I was jammed packed full of Batman source material so by the time the movie came around, I had more than enough fix on the topic of Batman. But I didn't think about the movie so specifically. But now I see your reasons for questioning of the flick and I fully agree. Considering all that the movie details, Nolan did a superb job on the movie and the entire series. We all know a lesser director would have screwed it up or found a way to typecast a character for the sake of $$$.
Now I don't know how to wrap this up so...that'll do pig
Gordon: I never thanked you. Batman: And you'll never have to
