And that's pushing people farther and farther into debt, right? There is going to be a point where the dollar is so weak that prices are going to push people out of the regular day things. Gas, groceries, hell even tuition has jumped by about 125% since I've been in school. Then the big guys are going to start collecting on what they can because people won't be able to pay for their cars or houses.
Maybe I'm just a stupid disillusioned college kid, but I don't see any positive course of action for my or my kids' futures.
I guess it one of those pick your poison type of things. Before, a high school education was all you needed. Now you need at least a bachelors to get a job and be competitive, and it's getting to the point where a masters is almost necessary. I think you'll see people making the tough decision of if their kids are "college material" or not.
I'm going into the military, so my degree allows me to try for OCS or enlist at a higher level, but other than that... it doesn't add much tangible benefit until I look for a career later on. Also, I think you're able to transfer GI Bill money to your kids, so while it won't cover all of it, it's better than nothing.
my wife and i have already decided not to save up for college for the kids. projections are it will be 100k+ by the time they go. they either have to get a scholarship or better yet go to community college for echo tech or something like that and be making 40k in 18 months with no debt.
by the way, this is the next big bubble. student loan debt. the free money which is pushing up tuition (just like housing prices 5 years ago) will dry up as lenders realize the price of college no longer can justify the loan based on the employment after. just a fun fact: student loan debt is the only debt that can not be relieved through bankruptcy. the two options die or pay it off. if you don't pay, they will garnish social security and wages. again, you can thank our government for that. oh and thanks to obama, student loans are now entirely held by the government, indentured servitude much?
I honestly dont understand my republican & conservative counterparts. I truly don't understand the mindset of people like Chef saying liberal thinking is moronic. Is conspiracy Kat the only one that has any hope left? That's sad.
It makes no sense to vote Romney /Ryan.

Do you mean jumped 25%? 125% would be more than doubled.
Debt is serious, for sure, especially college debt. However, you're talking about revolution. For most people, dropping cable and trading in their SUV for a Corolla would ease their burdens a lot better than taking to the streets with guns and risking their lives for a life that is mostly a fantasy.
My wife and I both have serious debt from college loans and have working class jobs. We don't live like kings, but we hardly want for much, aside from more B.S. that we don't need.
The quality of life that we suffer in America has much more to do with our obsession over pop culture and right/left politics than any government policy. Aside from dealing with realities of life that transcend politics-- death, loss of loved ones, heartbreak, fear of security-- most people get along o.k. It's not until we start thinking about "politics" do most people get that angry.
The one thing I do not like about America is that our media is constantly pumping us with B.S. to fear in each other and ourselves, which in turns keeps us watching shows and buying products we don't need. If we could all just turn off the hype, I think we'd all be a lot happier, even if it would cost our economy serious bucks.
SOMEONE will pay for THIS!
man, a lot of good discussion going on, not sure where the best place to jump in is.
i think that, left or right, people are fed up with the way things have been going in this country, with high ups in government and business reaping all the benefits and being exempt from the rules that us normal people have to deal with; however, i'm not sure if people are so exasperated with the situation that they could look past which way the lean socially and actually vote these guys out. i would love for their to be a viable candidate/party which could draw support on a platform of cleaning up the gov't process: term limits on congress (maybe 2 or 3 terms max), limits on campaign funds, getting rid of the electoral college (so my republican vote counts in vermont and my democratic vote counts in texas), getting rid of shady voter and election processes, limits on lobbying, basically anything to turn being involved with gov't into a civic duty rather than a lavish lifestyle where you're getting vast amounts of money to listen to other people with vast amounts of money. after they got that cleaned up, i would be more than happy to go back to bickering about chick-fil-a and whatnot, and hopefully, the views of the majority of regular people would actually be getting heard and put into practice.
and on that front, i really really dislike Mitt Romney, but that's just like, my opinion, man.
