Bobcats want to defend themselves against NBA bullies

Ask Dunlap who has impressed him defensively and he rattles off a half-dozen names: Henderson, Haywood, Bismack Biyombo, Ramon Sessions and both rookies – Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Jeff Taylor.
But Dunlap saved special praise for point guard Kemba Walker, saying he’s constantly gotten his hands on the ball, changing possession for easy transition baskets. Dunlap didn’t expect Walker to be so good on the ball.
This was pretty much off of Dunlap's interview on Bobcats.com...but what Ricky failed to mention was that Dunlap said the player he was MOST surprised about was Jeff Taylor, mostly about how he was able to cover the court defensively.

I know most find it boring...but I SOOOOOO love a defensive team.
Hope Resurrected: "I think I can bring an attitude to a team as far as, All right, no matter what, we are not losing this game'." - Kemba Walker

Put me in the camp does NOT find defense boring.

Do you remember that one month of amazing defense under Larry Brown ( January 2010 I believe ) where the Bobcats were destroying everyone on the defensive end of the court... I'll take that kind of basketball any day of the week.

I absolutely remember that. It was a thing of beauty...if they decided the other team wasn't going to score for a few minutes, that team did not score for those minutes. Period.

Shutdown defense like that is well worth it's weight in gold, especially when it can become your calling card. That kind of reputation can get in another team's head before tipoff and help win the game before it starts.

The "X" factor in our D looks to me to be Tyrus Thomas. If he's into playing Dunlap's D, we'll have Haywood/Biyombo at C, Thomas PF, and Kidd-Gilchrist at SF. Add Walker and Taylor as our G's, and we can cause some havoc defensively...

Good read. Reaffirms the optimism if Sorensen is feeling it!

That's why I defended Brown as much as I did...we became the #1 ranked D in the league and got Crash to all defense status. My favorite ball by far.

Yeah, that was the thing that stood out the most to me during the interview was his highest praise of JT.

And I'm with you and most everyone else here, I get more worked up for a well-defended trip down the court (stifling defense for 22 seconds, forcing a contested shot, boxing out and getting the board) than a fast-break slam or transition three, which is what that defense leads to.
