I'd certainly give him the QO and let him go the RFA route, but I'd be hard-pressed to give him a big contract. Looking at where this team wants to be, I don't think he's a starter when they get there. He could certainly be the backup 2 of that team, though. If you could lock him up for what the market value of a bench player is in this new CBA, then that's one thing. However, I'm sure that's not what he's looking for. So ultimately, I think unless he really shows out this year, we'll part ways with him either via trade or free agency.

I rather keep Hendo, I just don't see us making the miscues we did in the past like with Okafor and Thomas. Cho won't do that. I even wonder what his are cuz when he spoke of the future of the team , Hendo is rarely mentioned. He even mentioned Mullins over Hendo.

sent from the pseudo GM offices of the Charlotte Bobcats.

I'm very much of the opinion that I'd like him on the team, but only at the right price. He seems like a good guy, a hard worker and a reliable performer. He's a draft pick and I want this team to be built around our draftees. He defends well, drives well to the basket, has a good mid-range game and is athletic.

But ... he doesn't have a good handle, he isn't a good 3 point shooter and he doesn't pass the ball particularly well. I look at the skill-set that Jeff Taylor has and I think he has a real chance to develop into our starter at SG. I'd be very happy with Hendo here on the 4 year 25m contract mentioned before, while either Taylor gets the chance to develop his game in what I think is his natural position (not to mention Jeff & MKG complement each others games well on the wings) or we draft a Shabazz type player.

I can live with Hendo as our starter at the 2 for the medium term but get the feeling we'll always be looking for better, which Jeff Taylor might just become.

4 y/25 mil? this is the exact type of contract that i would not want on this rebuilding team if i were calling the shots. at most i would want 4y/17-20mil but more like 3y/14-16mil.

Hendo is a nice guy, and has a great work ethic, but unless he blows shit up for Dunlap, then there's no reason to pay him more than backup/spot starter money. Which under the new CBA is near 2/3 years, and 6/9 million. Above that and I'll be pissed.

4 years/25 million? lol. If he hit the open market right now some team would probably give him 8 mil a year. That's why i think we need to sign him now. We can always trade him later, but he continues to develop some team might be stupid and give a huge deal that we wouldn't match and i don't wanna lose him.

couldn't disagree more. i am very interested to see what his actual value will be ie what someone (or us) will offer him. i am becoming more and more interested in the differences in perceived value ie what the fans think a player is worth and actual value ie what salary they actually are offered. i think you are way to high on his value and you think i am way to low on his value. i wonder what gm's around the league will offer.

Hendo's salary for this season is $3,101,326 and the qualifying offer for next season, which I assume is the route we'll go, is $4,267,424.

If he would sign for $5m per then great, $6 is fine with me whereas $7 is too much IMO.

The only way a contract would hurt a rebuilding team such as ourselves is if we overpay and therefore can't trade the player should we wish to. I think a 4 year deal, which he'll be 29 at the end of, would lock him up for what should be his prime years. The length therefore doesn't worry me in the slightest. Similarly a contract that pays him $6m per is not, to my mind, overpaying.

But as Chef says, it'll be interesting to find out what the league decrees his value to be.
