    Good point.

Our captains (after being named captain) seem to have a shorter shelf-life than the average player.

But as far as Matty goes, it makes total sense that a guy who's been here for parts of all but one season gets a captainship. He's at every community service event, is beloved by the ticket-buying fanbase and everyone in the locker room knows he's not going to cause trouble. And really, except for the tenure Hendo has the same attributes, as well as actually being able to play defense (probably why Dunlap picked him) and occasionally put the ball in the basket. And if MKG, Taylor, Kemba, Bismack and Mullens see Hendo and Carroll as the guys to talk to about stuff, I feel a lot better about the advice they're getting than were our captain DJ Augustin or Jack or whomever.

Matt Carroll seems like the type of player who will coach after he is done playing. He was never a great player, but he has always done well with the gifts god gave him.

I'm pretty sure he runs a basketball clinic with his brother in Philly during the offseason. Guys like Carroll often make great coaches b/c they have to work on being a basketball player whereas a lot of guys like MJ just coast for the most part on their natural talent and athletic ability.

Pretty sure MJ (just like Kobe) lived in the gym. Insane work ethic. I agree though Carroll will make a good coach.

He still sucks as a NBA calibre basketball player. His greatest claim to fame will always be the guy that MJ gave that idiotic contract to. Wish we'd have made him captain right after he'd signed that deal so another team would now be paying it.

That's why I said "for the most part." You know guys like Carroll didn't ride impressive measureables and a 40" vertical into the NBA. Someone like James White is the opposite, very impressive athlete but no head for the game. Gerald Greene nearly turned out the same way but he finally figured it out it looks like. There is a small difference b/w living in the gym and actually practicing correctly. Even MJ needed guys like Tim Grover and Phil Jackson to be all that he could be. If he hadn't, he wouldn't have had the sustained success that he did b/c his career would have declined as soon as his athleticism did.

Carroll sure hasn't been able to apply his teaching principles to Hendo in his time here

then again he seems like he cant apply his principles to his own game. i cant remember the last time Matt Carroll was a good shooter, seems like its been years. not even threes, dude cant hit free throws

Always loved Carroll, met him once he's a nice guy. Yeah basically this season he'll be one of those player-coaches.. Hopefully once his contract is done somehow he will be involved in our coaching staff. He really loves the team.
