Default Mullens and Haywood to Start in Season Opener ?

It looks like Dunlap likes these two 7 footers to start in the regular season and I think its a good option to see how they do.

Mullens is a rare player, he is 7ft tall and he can hit 3's for fun and he has showed alot of improvement in rebounding and defense in pre-season. Haywood is our leader and i expect him to share minutes with Biyombo and i think they make a good rotating pair with there rebounding and shot blocking.

we will see how it goes but i can see Biyombo starting at center if things don't go well,

    your thoughts ?

    I liked it.
The first quarter I watched, Mullens was really switched on rebound wise, and grabbed a lot of defensive boards. It was really good.
Haywood took best post player, Mullens can play weak-side D and also rebound.
Plus Haywood offers more on offense than Biz and is slightly bigger.
I thought it was a good starting front court to be honest, and it does help our starting group with a 4 that can stretch the floor.

No doubt Mullens has stepped up his game a notch, a lot more hustle, rebounding and working hard on the defensive end.

Looks good on offense, and if Mully can continue at a high rate the way he did yesterday then I could see him getting a lot of min. at both the C/PF..

Defense is another story. Haywood is semi-physical in the post but can still be taken advantage of. Mully is just a defensive liability plain and simple. He is as soft as Shawn Bradley going after his seventh wife in the same night. (mormon humor) Haywood to me is older and will serve better as the veteran voice of reason on this young team IMO. Heywood will get some time but the development of Byombo is key to the future of this Bobcats team.

Starting Mullens and Haywood worked great against the Wizards in game one. Haywood was a constant roadblock in the lane, negating the Wizards' drives. Mully nailed some shots. Henderson, MKG, and Kemba were pressuring well on the perimeter with Haywood as the goalie. Cats got out and ran the break a lot. It looked good. Haywood should be far superior to Biyombo for a while.

Wanna see this. Most of y'all act like Haywood isn't a good player

I don't see that there's any other viable option other than to start Mullens & Haywood.

Mullens is looking like our leading scorer and best 3 point shooter. What a good return for a second round pick!

Haywood's experience and communication will be vital to our half-court D this season. I do however feel we'll need to see about 8mins a game out of Diop (never thought I'd say that after the disgraceful, negligent shape he showed up in last season) to avoid burning Haywood out. Biz will get his minutes and continue to play hard on D. But he really needs to carve out an ability to catch & score/distribute from the post to at least a decent level and hit his free throws at c. 66%. If he can become 'that' player in the next couple of seasons, then he and Mullens can form a good medium-longterm partnership.

Everyone is talking about Hendo and a possible extension but Mullens is up for one as well. If it were up to me I'd be much more inclined to give him one before the deadline. What's a no brainer for him...MLE money (5) for 3/4 years maybe?

Much rather extend Mully than Hendo. I'm all for letting him (GH) hit free agency
