MKG is so impressive. The way he passes, cuts, and plays d. He does it so crisp. It's like he's been in the league for years.

just picking nits here but i was thinking about his play and realized something that i am surprised is missing. for as explosive an athlete as he is, as tall and long as he is i am surprised he is not a better in game dunker. with the way he attacks the rim and gets his buckets, i expected him to be banging on people down the lane than he does. he seems to lay it in rather than rise up and stuff it in the lane. i would like to see him do it more as he gets more accustomed to the nba game.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, he will never be a Wallace/Iggy dunker despite the comparisons. His trademark play is putting up those layups through contact. He looks skinny in the arms but its really deceptive..hes 232 pounds and guys just bounce off him. By comparison Wallace is 220 (and he was listed as 210-215 when he was playing with us he's bulking up a bit now) and Iggy is listed as 207(!!). Pippen is 210.

MKG is only 19...when he fills out he's gonna be probably 250 pounds steamrolling through people on the fast breaks like LeBron...

    agreed.

by every measure he is as athletic as wallace and certainly more than iggy plus he has more length. which is why it is so surprising to me he doesn't finish with a dunk. i guess by the time he has filled out, he will be going through the contact.

He's just not a gifted leaper imo...it has its positives though, his style lends itself to getting free throws. He's gotten a decent amount so far and we've all been complaining about rookie treatment because he should have a lot more. I think once he gets established in the league he will be one of the top free throw drawers

i thought he was a 38" vert guy. predraft measures he was 35.5", but at 6'7.5 and a standing reach of 8'8.5" i would think he would be dunking better. watch the highlights on pg 20 from the mavs came. several of those should have been dunks, particularly the step through on the break (the one where he doesn't lose a shoe). either way i am very pleased with him. if i were a coach i would be working on finishing stronger though.

Didn't he have 3 solid dunks in the game AT Dallas? In less than 30 minutes?

But you're right. He doesn't have the spectacular Wallace-like or Dominique Wilkins-style dunks. He has very skinny arms, and I wonder if his dunks will seem more rim-rattling once he bulks those up.

I think he just attacks straight at the rim rather than rising way above it. Just his style, perhaps? Maybe he doesn't have big hands for palming the ball??

this is what i am talking about. it isn't that he can't dunk, it is right now (5 games into his rookie season--not a big deal) he is not a in traffic bang-on-your-head guy. given his balls to the wall playing mentality, his size and athleticism, i thought for sure he would be a barkley, nique, blake griffin type rim attacker. that is a mentality though and maybe he just doesn't have it.

like i said, picking nits. he is scoring and is most impressive. easily top 3 rookie right now. the future is very bright for him.

Just checked his hand measurements on draftexpress, and his hands have average length and above average width for a small forward.

His max vertical reach is 11'8", which is pretty good, but he was wearing elevator shoes at the combine. So it should probably be more like 11'7.5". That's solid. But to put things into perspective, Rudy Gay reached an astounding 12'3".

I think his true athleticism is his speed and energy. His dunk against Portland U last year is still his best, but it helped that he got a running start from around halfcourt.
