Haywood didn't play a lot in the 2nd half and esp. the 4th quarter...which left Mully & Tyrus getting a lot of the burn. I don't think Dunlap can really be blamed for not turning those two into great positional defenders in just a couple months.

I must admit that i disagree with this thread....just like any shooter...sometimes your hot and sometimes your not.....but honestly i think Mullens is 1 of our better scorers and 1 of the best pure shooting big man in the league....yes he has his negatives...but the guy is like 24 and has improved his defense and rebounding tremendously over the past year...he is a keeper and could be a long term starter for us at PF....he sure beats BIZ

Mullens has been better than decent this year. He's a good shooter but he could be better if he picked his spots better. I would like to see how efficient of a scorer he could be if he played inside-out. Every time I've seen him in the post with a small sample size to take from it he has been effective. I think he could be a better version of Ryan Anderson with the right coaching.
Rick Bonnell was on 610 today and was talking about Mullens. He said Duinlap had a convo with Mully be4 the season started and told him that he would play as much or as little as he played defense or rebounded..basically meaning if he didnt improve his D and rebounding then his playing time would decrease drastically....now we all know that Mully has never been a world beater as a defender and even a reb ounder for that matter..but for those of us who have watched all 3 games this season then i think its safe to say that he took Dunlaps comments to heart..he has been much more aggressive on defense and on the glass , as well as improve his stats accross the board..i do understand that this year is just a sample size so far being that we have only played 3 games....but his points per game have improved from 9 points in 2011 to 15 points in 2012....his rebounding has improved from 5 boards per game in 2011 to 8 rebounds per game in 2012.....also his fg % has improved....from 42% in 2011 to 43 % in 2012 ( not much but still an improvement) also his 3point fg % has improved from 23 % in 2011 to 33 % in 2012...his assists / steals and blocks have all improved from his 2011 avreges as wdll...now dont het me wrong he is no Ben Wallace on defense but from my point of view he has definitely shown the effort and aggressiveness to be better on defense and more importantly he has gone from a 6'11 guy who could barely get you 2-3 rebounds a game to a guy averaging 8 boards a game which is what a guy his size should average..i must admit that ever since we traded for Mullens i have witnessed him improve his game drastically...you gotta remember this was a guy who sat the bench in OKC and was lucky to get 2 or 3 minutes of garbage time in a blowout..so to go from that to a guy who has been entrenched as a starter for us i think the guy has been very impressive...there arent many big men with his type of game and with a stroke like his....like catch 22 pointed out..Ryan Anderson is a guy with a similar game....but i think Mully can be way better then Anderson....if he can continue to improve over the next year at the pace he did over the previous year then i think the sky is the limit for this guy....by no means is just a big body to take up space...he is very much a factor and 1 of if not the best scorer on the team..hands down we got a steal when we only sacraficed a 2nd round pick for this guy....he is still very young and im confident that he has the drive and desire to be great...i think he can be a guy who averages 16 -17 points and 7 - 8 rebounds a game for us and can be our starter at PF for the next decade...that or be an awesome 6th man...either way you look at it the guy is a player and was born to be a scorer....for those that get frustrated with him shooting to much and having games where he misses and continues to shoot..u gotta understand no matter if your Ray allen or Byron Mullens your gonna have games where u go 5-20 and games where u go 10-12...im very happy to have him and i encourage him to keep shooting bc he is a key piece in our future.

He sucks, needs to develop a post game and play better D. Hopefully a PF is drafted next year!
